Alright .. so ive been running rich for about 6 months and got tired of it so in the past two weeks i broke down and bought a Pocket logger and a brand new SAFCI .. not the newest one its the one with the buttons instead of the dial. My mods are as follows..

-Big16g ported with 34mm flapper
-Full 3" turbo back exhaust mandrel w/ test pipe
-Tubular 02 housing with 02 dump
-255lp Walbro Fuel Pump
-SRP Manual Boost Controller
-Crushed 1g BOV
-Autometer Boost Gauge
-9mm Wires
-SS Oil Feed line to oil filter housing
-SS Clutch Line

Not yet installed

-ACT2600
-OEM Fuel Filter
-RRE Lengthend Slave Cylinder Rod
-New Slave Cylinder

Annnyyyyywwwaaaayyyys .. i decided i was tired of running crazy rich, hitting fuel cut, and losing alot of power out of my car due to poor tuning.

I dont know much about tuning and ive been reading alot about it in my spare time but i have no idea where to start. I know how to hook up everything but i dont know what i should do with my car to get started on tuning it. Im not sure what to look for in the logs cause to me they are just a big list of numbers.. and im not sure what to mess with on the AFC .. ect ..ect

Is there some basic stuff i can do..

Also how do i copy a log to the computer so i can show you guys when i do my first log.

As you can see im a newbie to tuning for sure and have never really paid atten when my friend was tuning his 95 .. ANY helpful info besides just random links to read would be helpfull .. ive already read the whole article from road race and a couple more .. and went through vfaq.. now im looking for 1st hand info from people about what they did when the were just getting in to tuning.

Thanks alot

Do you have 550cc injectors? Also, how much boost do you run?

To start tuning, log RPM, knock, and timing. That's what I would knock if I were able to log knock (stupid obdii).

Good luck. :)

You wont be able to do a whole lot with stock injectors. First thing I would do after the AFC install is check your fuel trims(especially if you have a hacked MAS). After you get them straightened out I would turn the boost down to near stock and start logging. Log your RPMs, timing, knock, and probably even IDC(injector duty cycle). Just keep turning up the boost little by little until you see some knock that is pulling your timing. At the same time you'll probably notice your IDC near or over 100% as well. I wouldnt even mess with the AFC at that point. Wait until you get bigger injectors.

is it completly necessary to have 550's? i have friends running low 12's on 450s in their awds

Luke

95 awd big 16g, 450s , full 3", 6bolt built by buschur (yes using the stock 450's .. no 550's my friend is already in more debt from the car than he can handle), intake , hard piping, greddy type s, act 2600 and no tuning stuff ..(afc or logger ) walbro 255 and hes running 12.4's

another friend with a 95 awd is running a similar set up with 450s and running 12.7's

I dont know if you consider that BS or not or a 12.4 as being considered "low" but theres no reason for me to make up this stuff. Im trying to learn and asking legitimate questions so i know what path to go with my car.

Dont insult me by "throwing the bs flag" :thumbdown

I dont need usless comments like this they dont help me what so ever in tuning my car .. most especially from someone who calls themself a "DSMNewbi"

Luke
Its not completely necessary to have 550s, but theres only so much you can do with 450s. Especially in the top end. Your boost is gonna max them out easily. The only thing I can see you trying is keeping the boost down a bit and leaning the top end out so you push back fuel cut.

But i could still do some tuning to get my car back a little leaner .. cause its running really rich right now ..

Luke :(
