So i just picked up a pretty clean 89 gst for 350 buck. Has pretty much all but the short block. I am wanting to take my 6 bolt from my 98 and put in back in a 1g. Pretty much just wondering if anyone has some tips or pointers since this will be my first swap. Figured ill take it slow and take lots of pictures haha.

A 98 has a 7 bolt stock unless you or someone else has done the 6 bolt swap. Check the motor mounts they are different from a 1 g to a 2g.

My 98 is a gst that already has a 6bolt with a 2g head. Yes i get the dumb miss fire LOL. I will be running a 16g with a front mount intercooler. I am going to stick with the 6bolt because i dont want to deal with the crankwalk.

So i stated pulling stuff apart today. Got The intake and the intercooler off along with the radiator and most of the wire harness. Have the wire harness kinda balled up by firewall for now was getting dark. I am going to try to get some pics up as soon as possible.

Here are a few pics of the project so far.

It cranks over:D. Now i gotta get some gas tomorrow and see if this thing will fire up for me. I cant wait but i know there will be some little thing i gotta track down.

Its alive!!! Put some gas in it and it started right up. Sounds like the timing is off a little has a sputter so ill have to figure that out.

Ok so i forgot to plug in my o2 sensor. mine is a 2g so the plug is not the same so i need to get a new one, But would that make it sputter. I think its the timing because i put a new cas on it. I put piston 1 and tdc and lined the notch on the cas with the dot and put it in. At tdc the timing marks on the cam gears were aiming right at each other to.Any tips?

So little up date on car, blew head gasget due to the 16g waste gate. So i pulled head and found loose arp studs and burnt valves. So i put new springs, valves, crower retainers and web 272 cams. I also ported the turbo hot side to help with boost creep. I will say compressing valve springs with a c-clamp and a cut peice of 3/4 pipe is a pain in the butt.
Ill try and get some pics up asap

Right before it blew the head gasket.
