I bought my buddies GST. I originally bought the car for the engine, ecu, and harness. But since its a basically complete car, its almost a shame to kill it. All it needs is a m/t transmission and I will get one whenever I find a used one for a good deal. I want to get the car running, finish some small bodywork, and just spray paint it flat black, then completely smoke out the head and taillights, and black out the windows. I will then gut most of the interior and any other useless weight. Basically I want to use it as a dedicated drag car. It probly wont be too fast, but for the money I will have in it, I wont mind pulling it to the track and beating the crap out of it, and improve my driving in the process. After I get it running, I am going to leave the engine completely stock, then put ATLEAST a 75 wet shot on it. Cheap, easy power.
I guess I will write a quick list of the mods I want to do.

Engine:
New t belt, BS elim.
Atleast 75 wet shot, maybe 100.
Used tranny, and cheap race clutch.

Suspension:
Probly just put some coilspring boosters in the rear springs, and some spring squeezers on the front springs to shift most of the weight of the car on the front tires.

Interior:
-Stripped to bare essentials.
-Put on a cheap Grant steering wheel from my store(to get rid of the airbag)
-And throw in a cheap TunerFX seat that has been in the back of the storage unit at my store for like a year (some ricer ordered and never came and got it, and everyone forgot that it is back there).
-Cheap harnesses
-Probly add a boost gauge.

Outside:
-Cheap used smiley face front end and cheap side skirts.
-Finish filling in the spoiler holes and antenna holes.
-Fix one small dent.
-Sand the primer and rattle can the car flat black.
-Dark smoke out the tails and headlights.
-Tint out the whole car 5 percent and tint out the windshield.

Wheels/tires:
-Cheap slicks.
-Im going to talk to the guy that does all my welding and see if he can put a band in 2 of the steelies, to widen them by 2 or 3 inches.

Heres what we have already done:
-Dericed and cleaned the interior.
-K&N FIPK
-Stripped the 7 layers of old paint and primed.

Thats about all I can think of right now. Tell me what you guys think about it along with any suggestions, or just talk crap if you want to, IDC. I think it will be a fun car. 300 hp in a stripped car should be pretty sick.

Heres some pics. Disregard some of the stuff on the car, a ricer had it before us.

Nice job man! It's fun being a student + enthusiast, isn't it? Good luck w/ the project.

Took some pics today. tranny is finally out. Since I can't use the stock flywheel out of the car, I got the stock one out of my Spyder resurfaced, so its going in. I forgot to take a pic of it though, LOL.

Heres the old clutch and flywheel. Check out the heat spots on the PP and look at the springs on the disc, nasty.

UPDATE!

Been a while since I have updated. Havent had much time to work on the car.

But what I have done since last time:

-Got my stock Spyder flywheel resurfaced and installed
-Installed the ACT clutch
-Installed the tranny
-Rebuilt and installed the master and slave cylinders
-Put the mechanical aspect of the car back together.

So I didnt take any pics this time. But I have a few videos. One of the car in progress and one of it running. Which I will post up in a few.

Funny thing happened. First time I test drove the car, the steering wheel locked up and I ran it into the house. No damage on the car, minimal damage to the house. The reason it locked up is because I dont have a key for the car, but if you jam a screwdriver in the key hole, it doesnt lock. So I took the ignition lock cylinder/ignition switch housing out (which was a booger, lemme tell you) and fixed it so that the wheel wont lock anymore. Though I am not going to tell you what I did to it.

I am going to post up the vids, tell me what you think

Thanks...my vids are uploading now.

Next? Uh, tune up and other small mechanical things. Then body and paint....then...Idk yet.

We will see how its turns out then. Then I will decide if Its going to be a street car and sold....or race car....

So heres the vid of the car running. I was just screwing around in the driveway, making sure that the clutch and trans is in working order. The car runs kind of choppy, theres a big vac leak I have yet to fix.

nice work bro. I'm new here, trying to find a way to learn more about dsm/cars. I would like to see how this car going to be turn out. Let me know I'm close to bladenboro/whiteville. Not really sure if I'm the only one that have a GST(97) here. I really want to learn more about my car.

This is inspiring to get my lazy ass up and do something. that headlightning and headlights look sicks. Most people buy a project car and throw in some money, and ditch on it. Keep up the good work.
