I bought my buddies GST. I originally bought the car for the engine, ecu, and harness. But since its a basically complete car, its almost a shame to kill it. All it needs is a m/t transmission and I will get one whenever I find a used one for a good deal. I want to get the car running, finish some small bodywork, and just spray paint it flat black, then completely smoke out the head and taillights, and black out the windows. I will then gut most of the interior and any other useless weight. Basically I want to use it as a dedicated drag car. It probly wont be too fast, but for the money I will have in it, I wont mind pulling it to the track and beating the crap out of it, and improve my driving in the process. After I get it running, I am going to leave the engine completely stock, then put ATLEAST a 75 wet shot on it. Cheap, easy power.
I guess I will write a quick list of the mods I want to do.

Engine:
New t belt, BS elim.
Atleast 75 wet shot, maybe 100.
Used tranny, and cheap race clutch.

Suspension:
Probly just put some coilspring boosters in the rear springs, and some spring squeezers on the front springs to shift most of the weight of the car on the front tires.

Interior:
-Stripped to bare essentials.
-Put on a cheap Grant steering wheel from my store(to get rid of the airbag)
-And throw in a cheap TunerFX seat that has been in the back of the storage unit at my store for like a year (some ricer ordered and never came and got it, and everyone forgot that it is back there).
-Cheap harnesses
-Probly add a boost gauge.

Outside:
-Cheap used smiley face front end and cheap side skirts.
-Finish filling in the spoiler holes and antenna holes.
-Fix one small dent.
-Sand the primer and rattle can the car flat black.
-Dark smoke out the tails and headlights.
-Tint out the whole car 5 percent and tint out the windshield.

Wheels/tires:
-Cheap slicks.
-Im going to talk to the guy that does all my welding and see if he can put a band in 2 of the steelies, to widen them by 2 or 3 inches.

Heres what we have already done:
-Dericed and cleaned the interior.
-K&N FIPK
-Stripped the 7 layers of old paint and primed.

Thats about all I can think of right now. Tell me what you guys think about it along with any suggestions, or just talk crap if you want to, IDC. I think it will be a fun car. 300 hp in a stripped car should be pretty sick.

Heres some pics. Disregard some of the stuff on the car, a ricer had it before us.

that car is awsome man. you don't look to old either probably about my age. and by the quality of your work its obvious you have been around cars for a while. its nice to see some youngsters like us on these cars. also i have no idea how much shipping cost would be but when i get my new carbon fiber hood ill be happy to send you my old one if i still have it. (it flew up and smashed my window and put some cracks in the carbon fiber hood.) Ive never worked with carbon fiber so i don't know if it would be worth it to repair or not. but if i get a new one soon ill be happy to send it to you if you pay the shipping cost that is. figure it will make the car even lighter

Im 19. I started working on cars when I was 15, thats when I got my first car, my Spyder. Theres alot of stuff I dont know how to do, or have never done before, but I'm not afraid to jump in and try it. If you get another hood I would love to take your old one off your hands. I'd be glad to pay shipping on it. I'm sure I can do something with it. I appreciate it.

Im sure that when its done, you could probably get a couple grand for it. Did you think about that?

Looks GREAT though!

Way to bring her back to life!

Thanks.
And yes I did think about that :sneaky:

pretty sick. Is that a 1g blow off valve i see?

Why yes, yes it is

how necessary is the clear coat? some of what i read says there isnt a need for it, but does it make that much of a difference? also, how many coats of clear did u do?

If you smoke with VHT, then clear coat is a must. The VHT paint doesnt have any gloss at all, so unless you want your lights to be flat black, then you must clear. You can simply use a high gloss aresol can, such as Duplicolor automotive grade. Thats what I use. After you wetsand and buff it, it will bling like real paint.

Yeah this car is starting to look really great bro.

Ditto on the headliner question. How's you set the whole whole piece of fabric in, and did you have to stitch in around the diamonds? glues the pieces down? or are they just sitting free?

And those rims you put a pic of up before, are those what's going on to it? or what you took off? they look pretty sweet.

I used spray adhesive in an aresol can. The specific one I used was Permatex headliner adhesive, simply because I'm parcial to Permatex brand products. I simply sprayed the adhesive to both the surface to be bonded to, and the fabric itself. I then let that sit for atlest 5 minutes. Then just worked the fabric smooth onto the surface.

The logo was a spur of the moment deal. The way I've seen professionals do it is to cut out foam in the shape you want, then adhere it to the headliner board, then lay the fabric on top.

I used some wierd type of cardboard crap I ganked from my G-ma's crib when I went to borrow her close pins. I then cut out my design, and glued it to the headliner board. After that I simply layed the fabric ontop and worked it around the contours of the design. It was actually very simple. Despite the fact that I've never done any kind of upholstery at all. And no I didnt do any stitching.

Revvolution22:

Those are the wheels that were on my Spyder.

And to JEFFREYCASTGSX:

I used a self etching primer/surfacer. It specifically stated on the container to be used on bare metal. I thought that was enough, but I'm no professional so, I could be wrong.

Metal glaze? Etch or wash primer goes on bare metal. I know of normal glaze coat, but you don't put filler on glaze, it's the other way around.

Worked on the car a little the past few days.

Basically I've got everything apart to allow the trans to come out. When my brother gets off work 2night we are going to drop the tranny.

My ACT clutch should be here today, along with the stainless line kit (master to slave).

Other than that, I pressure washed the engine bay a little bit, until my brothers pressure washer broke. I didnt break it, it just broke while I was using it. Guess I got to buy him another one, LOL, I will take it out the car fund.

I also started touching up the bay a little. And I painted the brake calipers black...they were yellow...wow.

Couple other things I noticed. The lateral lower control arms are brand new OEM mitsubishi parts. I'm guessing they had the recall done or whatever. Because I think those were recalled right?

Also, the car has a junk yard tranny in it already....So this will atleast be tranny number 3 that Im putting in. Heres a few pics:

Gotta love those brake calipers. Check out the crucialness of the tranny:

Thanks. Well my clutch came in yesterday. I also got the tranny pulled out yesterday.

I ran into a snag with the flywheel. I originally planned on keeping the factory flywheel. After looking at it the pressure plate and flywheel.....you can tell it got REALLY hot. And there is four cracks in the flywheel. I have another stock one laying around, so Im going to see if its in good enough condition to be turned....if not, Fidanza flywheel will be going in.

Basically all I have to do to get the car running is put in my clutch/flywheel, and my good tranny. Other than that I am going to finish touching up the engine bay. I will get some new pics up today

Excellent job on the headliner....seriously. Now I totally have to redo mine.
