ok well I had a problem with breaking tob so last week I took it apart and replaced tob (oem) a Perfection clutch (made by zoom) from advance auto and my problem is this: in reverse the clutch will grab normal, then put it in first and try to pull out. It engages first at different point and really harsh like stage 2 clutch. Also when it engages first my car makes like a bad tob sound and if you take it out of gear and let the clutch out it goes away? I am so stumped! Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank

It could either be a bad tranny. When you have it out pull on the input shaft and see if there is any movement. There shouldn't be.

Before pulling the tranny again I'd double check all the other components of the clutch. None of them should be causing the noise, but it is still a good idea (and easy) when you are looking for tranny problems. Check the master and slave cylinders for any bleeding and make sure your pedal is in good shape. Us 1G guys have crappy clutch pedal designs. Crawl under your dash and lift up the clutch pedal all the way then push it back in. If at first the master cylinder shaft doesn't move you have a worn out pedal.

Once the tranny is off I'd also make doubly certain that all your flywheel bolts are torqued down tight. A loose flywheel bolt will make horrible grinding noises but not all the time (don't ask... it's a touchy subject.) :shhh: make sure the flywheel alignment pin is staying put too.

well my slave is good (no leaking behind boot) and no leaks from the master cyclinder, although i might have problem with my clutch pedal assembly

well I'm just takeing the tranny out replacing clutch fork and pivotball, shimming the pivot ball, and then replacing the flywheel with a brand new one. Then after thats done going inside the car and installing a new clutch pedal assembly

well the noise i am taking about is always there in nuetral whatever......if the clutch is all the way out then it doesn't make any noise if i push the clutch pedal in about a 1/4 of the way to the floor it makes the noise I have no clue what it is and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the harsh engagement of 1st gear but not reverse.
