after riding in a friends GSX im hooked! ROFL now I'm looking on advice of which direction to take.
I've been lurking on here reading through threads and searching craigslist am thinking of going one of these ways, by the way i'd like to think im fairly handy around vehicles and would like a mild project:
1. finding a relatively inexpensive non-running DSM and rebuilding it and going over everything replacing broken/worn parts.
2. finding a relatively inexpensive running DSM that needs work
3. finding a non-turbo thats in fair shape and rebuilding and turbo swapping. I've looked into the the needs for forged internals, and all the bolt ons. i was thinking Evo 8 or 9 pistons and "big" rods from DSMgraveyard and stock crank for a bottom end? and DSMlink v3lite?

i've read that they come from the factory making roughly 200hp, if i could kiss 300hp i'd be happy LOL any advice would be appreciated. thank you

im not much into the wing that 92 has LOL. I don't know much about transmissions, is the problems with that 91s tranny a big deal?

I was just throwing ideas the wing can be removed LOL but it seemed like it was legit as was the 91 just an idea because they both looked clean but atleast someone has looked at the 91.

Not really a big deal. Fairly easy to change out the shift solenoids. If that is the problem.

Anyone else notice that the guy selling the 91 said it has a 3 speed?.... I wonder if he's not counting overdrive..

i know, and i appreciate the help! thank you

I would check out that 91. I bet if you showed up with 2500 in cold hard cash he would sell it for that.

sounds like a good idea:thumb:

also i take it, that that vfaq website has a write up on how to change shift solenoids?

Yea i had 3k when i went to look at it. But was moving into a new place at the same time, some shit came up, it happens. Ended up with 2200 to offer him. He turned it down (i dont blame him) or else that car would have been sitting in my driveway haha. I was looking hard for a clean 1ga auto. Ended up getting a 1gb auto instead but o well.

Amazon Blue 1ga auto = the sex:hellyeah:

What about purple? :sneaky: haha

thanks again DSmtyson, if not, i know a guy who rebuilds transmissions and i can give him a call in the next couple days and ask him.

I use STMtuned.com and Extremepsi.com for most of my parts, and do my own work or have a fellow dsm'er help me. Check out the vendor list here on dsmtuners and look at the reviews for each.

I have a 90 GSX and a 97 FWD ESi, I absolutely love my GSX and wouldn't buy a different car if I did it again. It is easily upgradable and has a strong motor. It wouldn't take too much to get to the 300 mark

The biggest piece of advice I'd give would be to do as much research on the specific car you are going to buy and get a feel if the previous owner beat on it. Unfortunately these cars are notorious with having highschoolers just get in and beat them to the ground. DON'T IMPULSE BUY
