New engine break in with large injectors

So I am going to be breaking in my motor soon, running speed density. Is it cool to break the motor in with these installed, or should I use this set of yellow tops I have sitting here? Thanks!
 
The size of the injectors is not going to matter as much as how much foot you put into it. Don't beat on it and take it easy until things have time to seat and you should be ok running 440 injectors or 5000cc injectors. Its your driving style more than the combination of parts.

If it's a new tune along with your new engine, definitely run the stock 450's or something close for initial startup. If the injector size is the same as you were using prior to rebuilding the engine, you'll probably be fine as-is.

I can't stand the thought of ruining a good engine over a poor tune with huge injectors filling the crankcase.
 
Learning to tune, and setting up different than stock injectors on a new engine is a recipe for washed out cylinder walls, and diluted oil.
The engine does not need to be babied, but rather loaded, and unloaded, to seat the rings.
A dead on tune is a must for a new engine.
 
My reccomendation is to have a reputable dyno shop break it in on the dyno so they have all the variables covered. That way its broken in correctly and you will have peace of mind.
 
This will all be on a new tune, using Jackal. I think I will just run the smaller injectors for now, and get the car running properly on those, and then make the switch up to the RCs. Thanks!

I just built a shortblock a few months ago for someone who tried to break in an engine with jackal.

As Justin said, if you have a previous good tune to use, it shouldn't be an issue. But, learning how to tune with a new tune, and tuning solution could be some trouble.

For a person in your position i'd recommend a stock ecu, and injectors for the first 500 miles. Then implement your tuning solution, with the stock injectors, then add your fuel mods.
 
Hmm.. now the question is would a 91-94 awd ecu work in my VR4? I have a non-eprom ecu that has a grey case (purchased from dealership). Would that be okay to run with the 510s just to get it broken in? I am confident in my skills of getting it tuned properly myself, even though I have not done so before, but I want to do this right and safe the first time around. Would the injector/ecu combo react differently to the t4/t3 garrett than stock turbo? I also have my sensors installed for speed density already.
I also have 280 cams.
 
IF you already have the map and ait sensors installed than you can not use a stock non eprom ecu. You will have to use the jackal setup with eprom ecu unless you re-install the maf sensor. Also if you do happen to install the maf and stock ecu than you will want to go with some 450cc injectors because the 510's will make it run rich and put gas in the oil along with washing the oil from the cylinders. It will also run bad.
 
I do not have a set of stock injectors. The yellow tops are the closest I have. I have ran these before so I know of their condition. The sensors are installed onto the piping and the intake manifold, but I am sure I can cap the map and run the 2g mas that was originally on the car. Still, how will the car run with the BC 280s?
 
You should be able to get a pretty decent rough pre tune from injector data and other people's VE maps.

Make sure your front o2 sensor is working. Then the ECU can control the fueling in closed loop, as it can pull or add quite a bit of fuel. So that will keep your closed loop portion under control.

While you do your first few heat cycles, take the time to check your data logs and adjust the fueling between cycles as necessary.

From there, you should notice a trend. If you've been pulling fuel all along so far, you'll probably need to adjust the open loop portion the same way.

That should get you close enough.
