Ok iv been haven idle issues and code p1500. iv tested the atl. and check for continuity from the green alt. wire to pin 41. also replaced the iac.

Every thing checks ok so im thinking its gota be the ecu. Now where to get one?

I know there's some on ebay but idk if u can trust them, junkyards great but u never know what your going to get there, and then there's the dealer(expensive)

I just wanted to check with you guys and see where u would buy a replacement ecu
Thanks for the help

Have you opened your ecu and checked if the capacitors have leaked?
Your ecu may be repairable, if it is damaged.

You can get non-eprom ecus for fairly cheap, eprom ecus go for around $200.
I think the dealership charges $500++.

I got most of my ecus off ebay, most sellers will guarantee them not DOA.

Check the classifieds and ebay, usually they are not that bad and even though you might need to do just a bit more work to put a 98/99 ecu with a plastic case in your car it might be worth it because it appears that they have now been cracked and will soon be reflashable. It makes them a lot less expensive than replacing your eprom ecu directly and likely only marginally more expensive (or not at all) than a 96/97 ecu.

The ECU just seems like an unlikely culprit to me though, I'm not terribly familiar with your particular problem but in my experiences when the ecu of a vehicle decides to give up it does it in very grand style.

ok so ebays alright. Now should i go with eprom or just a replacement? Also do i need the computer from a 95 or can i use a 95-99 ecu? Are the gsx and gst computers different?

Other then that i just wanted to know if the ecu will be plug and play or do i need to have something done to it?

I plane on a few more mods not many though (injectors and a turbo i can run 20 pounds on) if this helps with the question about the eprom

Thanks for the help

A direct replacement for your 95 is an eprom ecu. It would probably be worthwhile to repair your ecu if it is in fact damaged and sell it if you move to something else because they are worth some money. A 96 ecu IIRC will be an exact drop in replacement and a 97-99 ecu will require some minor changes which consist of swapping the spark plug wire order and injector wiring order (5 minutes tops). You can also use an ecu from any turbo 2g, there is no difference between the transmissions or awd/fwd.

This thread was the first I could find on what it takes to move from a 98 ecu to a 95 ecu and you should be able to figure out what needs to be done to go the other way from it.

Like I said before though it may be worthwhile to move to a 98/99 ecu if you don't get another eprom, at the very least you can use them with evoscan which allows you to log knock.

The other place worth checking is Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market they will list different ecus for 95 than for the rest of the years and they will also ask you if it is for fwd or awd, search both and choose whatever offers the best deal. Also any 2g was built after 7/1/04, they will ask you that too.

the car part website must be down, will not load on firefox or ie.

Now if i swap to a 98 are the part numbers the same? the only MD312464 i could find on ebay was this one its item number: 110342068676 will that one work?

Or should i go with this one ebay item number: 110340758781

If u guys find any other ones on ebay shoot me a link

Thanks

I can't remember seeing any 2G ECUs where the capacitors leaked, have you?

No, the only time I have seen bad caps was in a 1G. But I have not opened a great number of ecus. I think the newer plastic case ecus switched the sealed style cap, IRC.

To OP, it can't hurt to do quick check inside the ecu. Double checking your alternator would be easy too, before spending $ on a ecu.

i tested the alt. and it checked out fine, even brought it to pepboys so they could test it, just to make sure.

i had to jump on that bid it was about to end soo i hope it works.( that was the item # 110340758781) if u guys wana look
