so i just swapped my automatic tranny for a manual one in my 1991 galant gsx. i have it all running everything was fine but i had terrible idle surge. i figured that i needed a manual ecu to help the idle if i left the automatic ecu in, the car will alway think its in park and not know where to idle after i've driven it. so i got a awd non turbo manual ecu i put it in but now the car will crank but not turn over. any ideas? does the computer need a clutch pedal switch to work?

I have a 90 Eclipse Auto ECU in my car and it works fine.

According to the 1000 already asked questions, the stock injectors are 450 (manual) / 380 (auto). You will need an AFC or different injectors to compensate for this.

its the galant gsx ecu the which is the car i have. they where awd but non turbo 4g63. i know that the auto ecu is fine but i hate idle surge its embarrasing driving with a lowered car and loud exhaust but with crappy idle

ok thank you tkelly now if i out in the 450's i would still need a computer yes?

You sure? I assume your talking about a turbo car and there weren't any turbo automatics in 90. Only NA's until 91 MY. What's the part number?

The manual Galant GSX is an NT and as far as I know there isn't any difference in the engines between the manual and automatic like there are on the turbo cars. So there should be no need to touch the injectors.

ok then why wont the car turn over? if its not the injectors causing the problem what is? it does seem like there is no fuel going in

Why dont you use the ecu that the car actually runs on and work out the idle surge issue? I believe there are the two black wires on a/t trans harness that you need to solder so it thinks its always in park

Sorry, won't turn over means it won't crank. Is that what you mean? That would be a starter, clutch safety switch or ignition switch problem.
