new cooling problem after fixing fans

Just found this thread and I didn't read all of hte responses so if this has been covered I apologize. It is very, very possible that the factory gauge is off. If you car isn't displaying signs of overheating (other then the stock gauge) then you might be worrying about nothing. Do you have a logger or anyway to see the actual temperature the CTS is showing?

Also as for the compression results, I know on a 4G63 the compression spread limit is 14, not sure if it different on a 420a or not, and the spread from cylinder one to cylinder two on yours is 30 psi. That is something I would investigate further with a leakdown test.

Hope this helps!

i have no way to log, so i will be replacing my gauge sensor when i can, and possibly installing an aftermarket gauge so i can get a better idea of what my car is running at. anyone have any suggestions for a good aftermarket gauge?

as for the compression, i read that normally there is a 10% tolerance for the numbers, which even so i am still outside of, so i will be replacing my headgasket, valve stem seals, and any possibly bad valves as well next month.

i also dont have access to a compressor so a leakdown test isn't very doable for me at the moment unless there is another way to do it, thanks for the link though, a lot of good information.

I was actually suggesting that that needle on the gauge itself could be off, not the sensor. An aftermarket water temp gauge would clear that up for you. Also an OBD scanner with a live feed, or a pocket logger (neither one is very expensive).

Did you try putting some oil in the cylinders and retesting? That will help you identify if the problem is in the block or head.

no i haven't done a wet test yet, i will be doing that this week as well.

so the 2gs are able to do the pocketlogging like the 1gs?

i used to have a 1G tsi and had a pocket logger for that, but i don't even remember now what i used or where i got the software.

Its not the hg. If hg was leaking it would push coolant and you would see air bubbles while running. Also, when driving, your temps would go way higher then barely above the middle.
Basically whats going on is something is lowering your efficiency.
This includes but is not limited to
air in the system
lack of flow through the radiator (dirty/blocked/small fans)
uneven coolant/water mixture
thermostat @ incorrect open temperature
and please tell me you wired your fans correctly. PULLING

small bubbles comming out the radiator means the HG is bad?My car has been blowing bubbles for over a year.It only comes out the overflow after high speed runs.never any mixing.I always though I just had air trapped. How do you get all the air out?Or should I be looking foward to smoke clouds if I dont change the HG soon?:hmm:I do need to do the timing belt.Allready 90,573 with boostin.

There is a difference between violently pushing coolant. And relieving excess pressure in the coolant system.

Also I figured out what was causing my problem. It was the heater hoses leaking along with a bad intake manifold ground wire.
