I have just replaced my crankshaft position sensor. I was having a random dieing and rough idle issue. the sensor fixed both problems and it idles right at 850 rpm much smoother and shifts perfectly at lower rpms. also it no longer revs up when i put the car in park. I will also soon replace my camshaft position sensor because it burns rich at cruising speeds ( slight smell of gas when i left off the gas). If you replace your crankshaft position sensor on your 420a be sure to also purchase a camshaft position sensor pigtail yes camshaft because every replacement crank position sensor I could find has flat blade terminals and a two notch plug. Come to find out my stock sensor has round blades and a one notch plug. Luckily these replacement sensors use the same connector as the replacement camshaft position sensor and most parts stores keep this pigtail in stock for around 12 bucks. :thumb:

just replaced my camshaft position sensor today and I replaced my crankshaft position sensor yesterday. My car has never ran and shifted so smoothly. I'm sure this will also improve my gas mileage.ROFL

Just got my egr block-off plates in the mail today. No more egr system and I love it. My car is running smoother and I have the satisfaction of knowing all that carbon and burnt fuel isnt returning into my intake. :D

the CEL doesnt really bother me and it came on as soon as i put the car in gear after idleing in park for about 12 minutes. It definitely idles smoother now and it seemed like the EGR valve was only working half the time and causing issues randomly. Besides that the egr line had a ridiculous amount of carbon build-up despite using gas treatment religiously.

unless you leave the sensor hooked up it will throw a cel code. after a while your car will idle differently at least mine did after i did the egr delete.

What is differently, I have a couple vacuum leaks I need to fix and mine jumps between 800 and 2000 rpms, something like that?

Indeed- there's oodles of things that can change an idle, unless your EGR setup is leaking somewhere, along the intake its recirculating into, I doubt that it by itself is adjusting your idle in anyway.
