i was going to to get a new clutch cause it keeps slipping so i was woundering if i could replace it myself or i should take it some where to get it done and if so is a stage 2 clutch worth it for just here and there racing?

I am not sure of you mechanics abilities and not sure of what tools you have access to. I can say ive done 2 AWD clutchs at my house myself. Also Please fill out your mods in your profile so we can determine what clutch you need.

i have no mods to it and i have all the tools needed i just didnt no if you have to take out the engine or some thing or anything:hmm:

Never done a first gen. Heard they were alot easier. You dont have to pull the engine to replace the clutch. A quick search will come up with alot of useful information to help you install a clutch. As far as going aftermarket...I would say as of now you wouldnt need it. But while your inthere it would be a bad idea to do a ACT 2100 or something comparable so when you start modifying your clutch is already set up and you wont have to replace it. Read many articles here on clutchs and you will learn alot of tips and tricks that go along with doing a clutch on a DSM.

They are easy. I have done mine several times.

Just pay attention and you will be golden.

Hardest part is wiggling it back up in to place.

Anyway what to do.....

remove the downpipe. then take out the 5 18mm bolts holding the transfer case on and lay it out of the way. I don't even pull the rear driveshaft out of the transfer case i just lay it out of the way. Remove the brace that runs from the back to the front under the engine. There is a triangular plate under the car that will prevent the tranny from dropping out. It is on the passenger side on the back portion of the subframe, remove that. Then everything else is tranny bolts, one mount, the slave cylinder, shifter cables, starter. That's about it. It is also easier if you remove the upper intercooler piping which just gives you more room to work.

Hope this helps. Also check out vfaq because they should have a good tutorial on it.

Yeah man. Depends if you are made of money or not. I just got my car back from a mechanic from doing my clutch job. They did not clean my tranny or anything. They took a grand from me. Kicked me in the balls and left me screwed over. I would do it myself. Thats just my advice. Its an easy DIY. You can trust no one but yourself. There are some posts telling you how to do it. I have a thread on it. its http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/351845-tranny-clutch-diy.html
That should have all the stuff you need. I hope that it goes well.
