DAM is all i can say that idle is crazy really lumpy and i havent yet got on it becasue the shop that put them in for me said not to get on it till it's tuned and i think they said that becasue they want me to come back and pay them to dyno the car so what do you guys think about getting on iit now??? he said i can burn a hole in the piston what do you think the car was tuned before the cam install for your info.

i must have installed my 272's wrong...mine idles fine, no lumpy idle here. i agree the idle has a different tone but far from lumpy. if it's idling rough there's something wrong! how much vacuum are you showing?

 When the vacuum in the intake is changed due to a larger cam it tends to make the car idle lumpy. Every car is different!

i'm sorry man but i have too many friends with aftermarket cams and we don't have idle problems nor is our idle lumpy. OMG

Just because the idle is rough/lumpy after a big cam install does NOT mean something is wrong. :thumb:

well i have a vid of my car with the 272s if you want to hear it

Host it. I can do the same with my FP2's either tonight or tomorrow night. It would cool to hear the difference between the two cams. Supposedly, FP2's are suppose to idle better...?

Well everyone here in colorado that has any cam in their car is noticeable at idle. I have a few friends that have AEM EMS, Dsmlink and stock ecu with the HKS 272's. All idle very crazy. Just is that way. This a a "big" cam for a DSM. Sorry, but every car will be different. My car with stock 1G cams was lumpy and idled wierd.

My best friend has an HKS 264 exhuast cam and stock intake cam. We got the cam for $60 from a friend. Car has dsmlink. It is definitely lumpy. Idle is low(6-8in/hg), but that is because of overlap. Bone stock this car only had 9in/hg. So each car is very different. Now we will be installing the 264 intake cam on sunday. As our other friend is putting the 272 in his daughter's car finally. This guy got a set of 264's for $60 and a 2G head with bent valves. Not a bad deal.

This car mentioned above runs well. It has run 13.0 @5800ft with a small 16g and sidemount. Very good numbers up here. We have logged 29lbs/min @ 18-19psi on pump gas. So no leaks or any issues here. Car is rougher at lower rpm though. Since the install of the ACT flywheel, dsmlink has a hard time catching the idle sometimes, but a blip of the throttle fixes that.

Stapl3, sorry to burst your bubble, but any cam will have some issues at idle. A local has crower stage 3's, its an AEM car, car barely runs with out some kind of gas.

GSTRACER, to be safe, go down and dyno, or at least log the car after the install. It would be good for piece of mind. Better safe than sorry. I would hate for something to happen just because you switched cams.

mmm, the sound of aftermarket cams is quite nice. there is a nice change in tone as well as a somewhere lumpy idle. Every muscle car I've ever seen at the track and at the car shows i go to over the summer that had some cam work has a somewhat lumpy idle. hell, there is some dude around here with 1999 gsx and hes got a fp street / strip with 264s i think and his idle is somewhat lumpy and the tone is very different. think about it though, you are changing the rate and duration at which the valves open at idle... its not going to sound like stock anymore.

I am having problems with my 272. It is a stock bottom and top end. When I go to press in the cluch to come to a stop the car dies. At idle I am pulling 5 in Hg which is crazy. The cams are on stock gears and the timing is right. I dont know how it is possible to instal cams wrong like people are saying.

I am running DSMlink and even by turning up the idle it is not helping. Is there anyway of getting more vacume?

It was not as bad, but now I have the balance shafts out and a 60mm TB, so I have less rotating mass, though there is still a stock flywheel, and since we just pulled the engine all the hoses are re-attached and everything is how it use to run 5 in Hg.

When I first put the cams in I had 10 in-Hg, I dont know how it would drop other than I had boost leaks then, which are now fixed, so some of the pressure was being released.

Any ideas?

Mine has balance shafts out, fidanza 8lb flywheel, ac out and power steering and I do not have that problem after installing my FP2's. After the cam install my vaccum went from
-19 to -14. You must have a leak somewhere or timing is off.

i just installed a set of racing cams(276/274 with 0.415,0.39 lift) and the thing would bog out if you go below 2500 rpm....... the problem with them was that there was NOOOO torque at all.... what is the best set of cams that will attain the same amount of torue of stock cams(very close at least) while providing a noticable amount of topend power.... please let me know what you guys have experienced with the 272's for loss of torque......PS. i am running a 2.3 stroker, thanks
