What I am hearing from a fellow tuner is that unless I have a ram intake theres no point in getting a cone filter except it sounds cooler. Apparently with humid weather turbos has some trouble so a new K&N air box would be better. What are your thoughts?

do u mean like a ram air intake?? a ram air intake has a vent in the hood to direct cool air into the intake. ive never seen one on a dsm. also ive never heard of turbo's having troubles in humid weather. im not really sure what u mean by a k&n air box, but most intakes for dsm's are just a cone air filter (k&n or whatever brand filter u want) and a flange to bolt the filter to the MAS. i wouldnt pay much attention to that guy and just look around at intake systems for ur car. hope u find what ur looking for.

Well I have a stock air box in my car not a cone filter. By K&N air box filter I mean the filter like this:

i agree with pieeyedpiper i would be ditching the stock airbox for sure. ull gain about 10 horses anyway without that restrictive airbox.

I am not going to pay $139 for that $30 worth of product. Would a K&N FIPK do just as good with out the ram air pipe?

To be honest its the nicest, in my opinion, for the money. You can get ebay systems for much less, but the quality is lower. You can also get an injen for $200+
You shoudlnt have any problems with a $30 ebay intake filter and pipe though, its just a pipe..
and while a k&n will do fine for just a filter replacement, good luck getting a good k&n filter for anywhere close to $30.

If all you can spare is 30 bones and you still want to upgrade your intake, check out what ebay has to offer.
