Alright well i just sold my 99 rs and bought a 97 gsx (110xxx on the engine, and the body). has some ugly ass rims on it. i wanna go back to the stock ones.

Also the engine is entirely stock, so gimmie your ideas on what to do with it. Im not stupid when it comes to this stuff. Just wondering what you guys would do if you had a blank slate to work with. Lets say I have 1000 dollars left to do whatever.....

And if you guys have anything you would be willing to sell me like (97-99 gsx rims) send me a PM.

Replace the timing belt, balance belt and water pump first, then you should look into the upgrade paths in the tech sections for more power and handling. They will also give you the proper way to upgrade your car. (supporting mods first)

Looks good BTW :thumb:

yeah true, i got 5000 for my RS, well becuase i rebuilt the entire engine. but it was all OEM parts. and i sold it to some chick.... but when i changed all that crap on my 420a i had to pull the engine because the engie bracket bolts were to long to get out, and that was holding on the TB case, and the case was holding on the water pump... i was thinking of saving up and building a monster 6 bolt

:thumb: It looks good other than the wheels like you said. I am impressed with the under the hood shot. It looks like somebody took decent care of it and Didnt try to rice it out. IMO the first thing would be upgraded BOV and a 14b. You can buy the 14b for 75-100 they are a good turbo for the money. The only modification would be the oil feed line which costs 30 shipped from JNZtuning. I have just sucessfully made my first PVC Upper IC piping. If I have time I will do a write up. I used (2) 2' 45* grey pvc elbows approx 12' in length (1) 90* pvc elbow (2) 2' rubber couplers and (1) 2' 90* rubber coupler. I jb welded the 1g BOV flange to the piping and tested it @ 25psi no leaks :thumb:

Total Cost of upper IC DIY from ACE $23.86

Many people will tell you big turbo big FMIC etc. Its not about what you bolt on its about how you tune it. The 14b is a good turbo for the price and they are a dime a dozen. The factory side mount will work well but if you got FMIC dont go really big! and remember always do your homework. Homework and a good tune will get your further than throwing money at name brand parts. BTW there have been several sets of the 2gb 5sokes for sale just look around most have been in FL or PA but they havent been too high priced

Its too little too late... but I foudn a trick to getting the 3 long bolts out on the passenger side of the 420 w out pulling the motor. Next time loosen all the mounts and jack up the motor as far as it will go. Then unbolt the lines that run on the inner fender. You should just barely be able to squeeze the bolt out. I found this out when resetting the timing belt.

It would have been nice to find out what exactly had been done as far as maintenance before you bought it. The water pump and timing belt are big things so get those checked.

As for mods, I say get your intake pipe/filter. Then get 1g BOV, boost gauge, and boost controller. Those few mods are cheap as hell and will get you going a whole lot faster than stock. Then it would be time to grab a catback exhaust. That should have you happy for less than a grand. The money you save could buy you a set of the GSX rims you want.

BTW, how much did you pay for the car? It looks nice in the pic. Hope you got a compression check. That is another thing you should have done before you start modding. I had a bad valve on my all stock GSX when I got it. Cost me a lot of money to get that fixed.

well i didnt buy it yet, i am picking it up next weekend. since it was my sisters first communion today. but i will check with the dealer on what was done with the car. i bought it for 3,999 but down in naperville, ill. about 3 hours away from my house. but its worth it finding an all stock 97 gsx.

That is a steal man. I paid 8500 for mine! And then the valve job was 2500 on top of that. But my compression numbers are now all about 180. That is about 30 higher than most others. Still, it was a lot for a car with over 100k miles. Hopefully the paint is still good on there. Hard to tell in pics. If the paint is good all around and no body damage, I have to say I am totally jealous. Big ups to a fellow silverdsm'er!

Also, a great mod for our cars is a short shifter with the shifter bushing kit. The factory shifter seems like it moves a full 12 inches between gears.

- Do all your maintenance first before all.
- Get aftermarket boost gauge, oil pressure gauge and wideband
- Intake and full 3" exhaust
- mbc
- HKS or evo9 BOV
- And last but not least some sort of tuning device. Depending on what turbo setup/injector size you want to run, you can either opt for a apexi safc or dsmlink.

These little bolt-ns along should help waken the car up a bit.

Enjoy the car and have fun with it.

I just have to add. That engine bay is SUPER clean, and especially in stock form. Very nice find.

As said before, maintenance first, and then bolt ons (Intake piping w/K&N filter, boost gauge/controller, 1G bov or greddy/your choice, ect.)

do the maintanance and then ecm link v3 with a wideband and a real boost controler.

Paints immaculate.... cant believe i found this car, and on top of that i just called the dealer around 8:30 at night (he was kinda mad for me calling late) and i kocked the price down to 3500. it only has a small dent/knick on the bumper and thats it. sounds like im gonna get a catback, upgraded turbo intake, boost guages, and ect.) then save up for a monster 6 bolt

heres some more pictures of the car. the only bad thing is that its an auto.... ill have more probably tomarrow and monday for sure. and there are some holes in the center console next to the cigarette lighter that i dont know what they are from. But it doesnt matter i am going to swap that ugly grey for black vinyl

GOD I CANT STAND THOSE RIMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a fan of the auto but its all good. That makes it a pretty sweet DD for commuting around and such. When I am sitting in traffic for over an hour...I wish I had an auto. LOL Those holes make me suspicious though. The first thing I think of is an AFC. The previous owner may have modded the car but returned it to stock before he sold it/traded it to the dealership. It's an easy fix like you said. Let's keep the fingers crossed for the compression test. Big bucks, No whammies!

Here are the sites I have saved. Read them all and then choose for yourself what is best for you.

Also, don't forget about mods for handling. There are plenty of threads here on dsmtuners that you can spend literally weeks researching. Pay particular attention to the wisemen. They know their stuff.

man 3500? id rock the auto very nice car aside from those wheels

Not really sure all the ones i have seen listen on Ebay,Craigslist, ect. Were like 200 bucks a rim. I've seen them run alot higher than that though.

Dude i just scored on a 98 gsx parts car. it is the entire car!!!! minus the hood, side skirts, and front bumper. its all torn apart but it comes with 6 gsx rims w/ tires. and a 2.4l stroker engine. 1g head on a seven bolt tho. if anyone needs anything send me a PM. i have a hole car right now. and i need it out asap. bought it for 750 bucks

What will you sell me your existing rims for? I am looking for some to mount snow tires on. I don't care what they look like (I will paint them black though).

Sweet, I'll hit you with a PM, I'm waiting to hear back on some stock wheels that are local, if that falls through I'll get yours.

I'd defiantly make sure that timeing belt is good. It goes and you have serious problems.
