New 1g auto awd maf problem

Ok so I'm picking up the car in the title.. It has an safc and some other odds and ends but otherwise stock, the guy says the problem it had is when it idles the car idles rough, and when you try to drive it the car gets rich and tries to die he says it's the maf... Is this true or could it possibly be something else, I got the car very cheap and the owner has paperwork for a brand new rebuild on the motor, so either way I'm not screwed I'd just like to get the problem resolved before heavy modding

Do a boost leak test before throwing parts at the problem.

Get a tuning device, or devices wideband, for one.

To add to my previous post make sure to do all your basic maintenance before even thinking about doing any modding.

The only thing I've bought is a 1g maf for 25 bucks, I'm just wondering if it sounds maf related not

It has an safc, but I'm wanting to take the car to complete stock before modding since there really isn't anything bolt on wise.. Just the safc and I haven't been able to see way the psi is set to

Is the check engine light on or working. Try to pull codes. also what other mods are listed because a safc can dangerous if use wrong.
