Need someone for timing belt replacement

Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 1998, 420a DOHC 2.0 L, Manual

Car currently has around 93,000 miles and was never sure if the belt had been replaced previously, the carfax obviously didnt provide any information so I just recently bought a timing belt/water pump kit by Mizumo.

Many auto centers wont do the job if the consumer has the parts since they cant warranty it and of course, iv heard DSM's should require someone who really knows what their doing. Could anyone suggest any good shops around central NJ or even anyone on here who could do the job with a good quote.

Dogbox racing used to be literally down the street from me (im in Howell, NJ) but yea there gone : ( TurboTrix has very bad, sketchy reviews.

Sorry that its from another site but this is a great write up for replacing a timing belt on a 420a motor. Should do it yourself, save you a ton of money and a great learning experience. 2GNT.com - Timing_Belt_Replacement

Edit - Also you should of went with the tried and true OEM timing belt or Gates timing belt. I see mizumo is pretty much an ebay thrown together kit and you get what you pay for they say.

As for the Mizumo, I did read reviews before buying the kit since it was so cheap and many said the kit worked very well for them. If you guys strongly feel its horrid though, i'll just return it and get Gates or whatever else.

Id love to do it myself but have no auto-tech experience really other then watching my mechanic friend change my thermostat housing and reading the haynes repair manual. This is definitely an advanced auto-repair job and I cant mess with this one .

You can use it, most just steer clear of things purchased off of ebay. Then again some have good luck with stuff on ebay, so who knows.

As for the timing belt, its not an extremely difficult task. Just takes patience and a little finesse!

For someone who's never done an auto repair fix I might need to sit this out until I get a bit of experience . If I had a mechanic working alongside me I would be down, but this engine also requires it to be lifted out as well if im not mistaken, which I don't have the tools for either.

It is very well much easier to do it with the engine lifted out, but doesn't have to be. Just need a jack to take weight off the passenger side motor mount, remove it, and start the tear down from there . But I understand if you think you can't do it, then it probably is best you have someone else do it for you.

thanks for the support though. DSM's are so damn rare now and even more rare...a mechanic willing to work on it with passion haha. I do have a few people I can go to but can tell they just dont care to do the job so I stay away.

Thanks to my mom getting a white 1994 Eclipse way back, iv been obsessed with DSM's since I was 4 years old and love my car so much. Goal is to keep this as my daily and save for a GSX on the side soon : )

If you're not willing or confident enough to do a timing belt job on your car you might want to consider another hobby. No offense, just being frank. Especially on an aging platform as this one. I understand where you're coming from being unsure of yourself with the timing belt maintenance, but even the best of us here started somewhere at one point and have learned our ways around the engine/car over the years. It's all part of the fun and excitement.

If you're not willing to take that leap, then you'll be rolling the dice finding and paying someone to do it. Do your research on your mechanics in the area and go from there.
