Need some help with putting an engine together (2.4 crank)

Well my stock 6 bolt went out on me so i was thinking what i was gonna do and what i could get away with. I was thinking a 2.4 crank, 1g rods and 2 pistons. And then use my block i have now along with my head. But my ? is what kind of machine work would need to be done if any. Does the 2.4 just drop in to the block and will rods fit on. Also what work needs done to put the 2g pistons on the 1g rods and then the pistons into the block. Thanks

To fit the pistons on the 1g rode, the 1g ROds will have to be machined. Theres an article in the Tech Guide about it. I dont know about the crank though.

Sorry, but the 2.4 crank requires a 4G64 block so I don't think that'll be possible.

Are you sure about that? I just put a 2.4 crank in my buddies 7 bolt and it seemed to work? Hm. maybe im confusedWTF

The 4g64 crank has a longer stroke than the 4g63 crank. You can use the stock 1g rods but you will need stroker pistons. Stroker pistons have an offset wristpin to accommodate the longer stroke of the 4g64 crank. If you do it this way you will have a basic 2.3 litre stroker motor. Also the 4g64 blocks are slightly taller than 63 blocks. Thats where the added .4 litres of displacement come from.

I'm not sure of any cheap pistons but all the big names sell them J/E, Ross, Wiesco..... As long as you get 1g pistons and 1g rods you shouldn't have to have them machined but I suggest you let a shop build the engine unless your confident in your mechanical knowledge. You might be better off just picking up a stroker kit fom slowboy or someone. That way you get everything you need and you'll know the crank is good and the bearings match.

Well i put together the motor thats in my car and it made it for about 20k then spun a rod bearing but im not sure if it was something on my part. Im really low on money and would just just put another stock crank and rods back in the motor but i cant seem to find one for a decent price

If having the car to drive for a little while isnt an issue, then i would save up 1500$ + s/h, and go to sbr, and get a 2.3L stroker kit, it comes with pistons, rods, crank, piston rings. Its the best deal that Ive found, its priced low like the kits using h-beams, but you can use crower I-beam rods. Also I remember hearing that the oil pans had to be knocked out a little bit when using a 2.4l crank, because the rod would come down a hit it causing a tapping noise. you may want to check out the stroker forum.
