Hey I'm new here and I have a question, well more so I'm looking for an opinion from you guys.

I just got my 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS three days ago and it has some pretty bad exhaust leaks (biggest one on the exhaust manifold.)

I'm not looking for what everybody else uses, I just want to have fair parts going on and not just going and getting the cheapest and fastest to arrive parts :p

I have $700-$800 for a budget.

All I've really been able to see it Megan Racing parts but I've seen mixed reviews from everyone about them so I'm not really sure. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so we don't go through emission testing, but if a cop thinks your exhaust is too loud, they'll issue you a fix-it ticket and you have to bring it back when it's better.
(So not something too loud and annoying.)

I would like to know if anyone has some good suggestions for an exhaust and header/manifold options.

Like I said I'm on a budget and I need to fix this solely because my parents don't enjoy the crappy sound of bad exhaust. I can't either :p

Thanks

If you're only fixing it, don't waste your money. Just go to an exhaust shop and have them weld you one up.

Another option would be to look for a good used setup, that way you get what you want, and still save a couple of $$. You can save quite a lot buying used. Good luck with this.

If ## exhaust manifold is cracked & leaking or leaking from a broken stud in the head, I would suggest just finding another stock 2g manifold. preferably ported or just port it urself. The 2g stock manifold is actually really nice & ported it can handle up to 400hp. & while u have it off, remove the long stud off the Turbo & just replace it with a bolt to make ## life easier in the future. U can also take off the exhaust housing on the Turbo & O2 housing at the same time as the mainfold, so u dont have to disconnect the oil & water cooler lines on the Turbo to get the manifold off, & then port both of these as well... Which is what I did. Once everything is ported, the inside diameter is roughly 2 1/2"s & is plenty sufficient flow for the beginning of the exhaust. I would suggest a Road Race Engineering downpipe ### it starts out at 2 1/2" & will bolt up directly to ## stock O2 housing & has no clearance issues, has a flex section, & then expands the 3". They make a short & long version, the long obviously eliminates the cat. After that, that cat back system is ## choice. Plenty of places sell cheap cat backs or u could just buy a muffler & have a local exhaust shop fabricate something for u. I personally prefer the Thermal R&D system, but that just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Oh... I just realized your car is a n/t... Lol well I guess this post was worthless info. Haha. good luck though!

I know you guys are saying just have a shop fabricate one but up here it seems that even an exhaust costs an arm and a leg. I'm thinking about used but the only way would be online and I have no clue where to get descent because I'm still looking for a descent brand :p

Also thankyou everyone for the help :) and thanks for the detailed description, it may not help now but when I mess with a turbo for it which I plan to in the future it will be nice.

No problem. & you're welcome. If you're on a budget, just look on eBay for a used system or cheap new one. Megan racing is actually a decent exhaust for the price. Buscher is also good. Of course HKS, APEX & my favorite Thermal are the best.. but be careful buying no-name eBay exhaust systems. They may be stainless steel, but they're often not crafted well & hangers can be missing or not in the correct place & u will have to fix it. But overall the eBay stuff isn't bad. Its still just exhaust pipe. The better brand names however use thicker, higher quality pipe & have done their research & testing to create & better sounding tone through their mufflers & resonators.

When i had my 95 n/t eclipse i put a ebay header and downpipe on for about 60 shipped and it comes with new gaskets and fit perfect. You don't really need anything expensive the ebay stuff works fine for the n/t. I ran my car with it for 8yrs and sold the car with it and it was still good never leaked.

the megan and ebay stuff is the same just has a higher price tag. Pay 60 shipped and you get a header and downpipe. Just found this.
