So I am trying to tighten up the nut on the top of the front strut after putting on my coilovers. I got it on and tightened it as far as the inpmact would take it. I drove around the block and I was getting a bunch of noise. I put it up on jack stands and noticed that the nut hadnt tightened all the way down on the perch. That was allowing the strut to move up and down about an 1/8 of an inch and making a bunch of noise.

Now the problem. I cant get the nut off or to tighten any more becasue the shaft just spins. I have tried everything on the planet to try and keep the shaft from spining, but no dice. I tried vice grips with rubber on them, I have tried those rubber belt thingy's, I even went as far as to just vicegrip right on the shaft, and again nothing.

If anyoen knows an easy way to get that nut tighter or off let me know cause I want to shoot myself.

Did you bottom out the thread on the strut shaft? meaning did the nut spin all the way down to the end of the thread?

No I put in 2 extra washers to make sure that didnt happen.

Are you doing this with the shock/strut assembly in the car? I would take it off and put it on a bench vice. :thumb:

Ill try that. Put I dont have a ton of room. Good call.

You dont want to put it on a vice or grab that piston unless its with rubber or something smooth because scaring the piston surface can cause it not to seat right and blow the strut.....i would make sure the impact is giving a quick sudden jolt....that should get it loose like a zip gun....try some vice grips with rubber around them.

Tried that no luck. I would grab it really far up. If I had the strut compressed that far blowing it out would be the least of my worries.
