Ok guys, i've been reading about the thread about to stroke or not to stroke (LOL) and I'm leaning towards stroking my spare 6 bolt block. I've been having trouble finding a g4cs or g64b crankshaft (6 bolt 100mm) to use in my 4g63 6bolt block. So doing a little searching yielded a great deal, wiseco pistons and eagle rods bnew with rings standard comp (8.3 i think) for 500, at the same time another deal popped up. A set of used ROSS .40 over stroker pistons with pins and used rings AND a used eagle crank 100mm in immaculate condition for 565 shipped. Now the seller of the stroker has a set of 1g rods that will work with the ROSS (I read somewhere that you can use press fit pins on ross pistons). I need answers ASAP as I need to commit to one very soon. My goals are 400 to 450 to the wheels, no talk of 1g rods on 2g pistons as dsmgraveyard sells their set for 399 and for 100 more I can get the forged setup. Im on a budget and this motor will be a long drawn project but I'm slowly purchasing parts. Again, opinions are greatly appreciated

Current Setup:
Stock 7bolt 99' block
stock internals
tubular manifold
S16g turbo
walbro 190
EGR delete
FIC 650cc inj
Keydiver stg3 chip
3 inch APEXI turbo back
running 21 psi, 93 octane 10.5/1 afr
greddy FMIC
greddy type s BOV
external oil cooler
1999 eclipse GST 5 speed

no help?

When you already have a split thrust 7 bolt block factory installed the benefits of building a 6 bolt are diminished, especially if you don't use the beefier stock 6 bolt rods. Since you already have the block though, I'll skip on ahead.

It sounds to me as if you're really leaning towards a stroker engine build so I'll focus on that. Buy the 100mm crank by itself if you can. If you can't, then consider reselling the 0.040 over Ross pistons. You don't want to bore 0.040 over if you can get away with just a light hone on the cylinders. Taking more material out leaves less for the next rebuild and 6 bolt blocks are getting pretty rare nowadays. Also, buy new rings. They're cheap. Reusing old rings is just being a tightwad and doing it halfassed.

I don't know whether you can use Ross pistons with press fit pins, but I wouldn't want to try it anyways. If you're going to the trouble of fitting forged pistons, why would you want to skimp and buy used stock rods whose compatibility with your pistons may be questionable? Forged rods will save rotating mass and should be at least slightly stronger, even if you get a set of budget Eagle, Scat or Manley H beams. Take a little longer to save the necessary funds and get it just how you want on the first try. Or, if you're in a hurry, you should forget the stroker crank and just buy the wiseco/eagle combo now.

Everything I just wrote is only my opinion, it's ultimately your call on all of this stuff. That's probably why nobody had replied yet. Another member might tell you an opinion totally opposite of everything I said. Decide for yourself what you want, come up with a plan and stick to it.

Thanks for the reply. Ive been really thinking of stroking but two great deals came up and now its getting harder to decide. I know if I get the crank with stroker pistons, i still have to buy rings for the pistons and get my 1g rods fitted which means more money for .3 more displacement versus I can get a set of BNEW wiseco .20 over pistons mated to BNEW eagle rods for 500 shipped since I already have the crank polished. Reading about rod stress on the strokers kinda scare me too. I think i'll be sticking with the 2.0 forged setup. Thanks for your opinion
