OK so here is what is going in on i bought my 91 talon tsi on July 30 2010 when i bought the car it had the he4ad ripped off and broke valves and one demolished piston "big hole in it LOL" but anyways i bought the car and rebuilt the motor it new rings bearings and gaskets also new oil pump and water pump now on the internals all i did was a bs eliminator bought a balanced crank and had the piston and connecting rod weight matched

so after the motor was built i put it in the car with just a rebuilt head nothing special and a big 16g turbo i drove the car home and noticed i had a boost leak so i torn the intake off fixed the leak and put the intake back on and that is where my problem started after i got it all put back together i started the car and it would not rev past 2500 rpm it bogged down bad so bad it looked like it might be diesel form the black smoke it was putting out so the car sat for 6 months while i tried to figure out what was wrong and i mean i tried everything i spent hours on every dsm form and could never find anything that fixed the problem i wont go into the list of new part i put on because i have finally fixed the problem "it was a burnt out copper inlay on the ecu LOL it took a .01 cent Price of wire to fix and 7 months to find it LOL " but anyways hear i am now got the car running new tires and everything but i got my tax's back and now i want to build another motor LOL i still have not broke in the one i already built it has 100 miles on it LOL but i want to ether do a 2.3 stoker or do a all forged 2.0 and i cant make my mind up i am shooting for 500hp with the ability to upgrade allot more if i want to but i want reliability witch route do you guys think i should go i have about 2000 for the new motor but if it is less than that i will put the rest of that to bolt on performance ie. bigger turbo cams

so in the end i would like opinions on what i should do 2.3 or 2.0 forged and what do you think i could get for my still new motor if i sold it thanks for looking and i look forward to the advice

Ok so you want a built shortblock?

6 bolt block, 7 bolt head with the headbolt holes reamed out.

Manley I Beam Turbo Tuff rods rebushed for 7 bolt piston
Wiseco 10.5:1 E85 7 bolt piston
ACL Race bearings

AND ALL THE MACHINE WORK for a race motor.

with a stroker, your going have to have the crank clearance done.. expect anywhere from a $600-1,000 dollar machine shop bill.. i.e. boring/honing, crank clearance, deck the block, bake/clean block, magnaflux, balance rotating assembly.. stuff adds up.. just keep that in mind

what is the sugested rpm red line difference between a 6 bolt 4g63 2.0 with wiseco 1400 hd pistons manly turbo tuff rods and acl tri metal bearings and a crank girdle and a mitsubishi crank

and a 4g63 2.3 stroker with wiseco stroker pistons and manley H beam pro rods with acl tri metal race bearings and a mistsubishi crank

the reason i ask is ### i am still up in the air about stroked of forgeed i want the tourque of the strocker but if the rpm difference is alot my top speed will be greatly efected and since i dont do much 1/4 mile draging on a strip i want to go as fast as i can get up to

still up in the air

Most builder don't like to take a stroker over 8,000.

As for the 2.0, that's going to some down to the valvetrain, not the bottom end. If the valvetrain is good you can rev to 9500+, but obviously the higher you rev the shorter the engine life.

id go with the forged less money you will have to spend if you only have 2000 from what you said and besides that with a stroker your gonna need the tranny that will hold up to it as well.

How fast do you plan on going?!? If that is your concern I will tell you that a stroker will get you just as fast as a 2.0. I am sure you can go a bit faster with a 2.0, but there are other limiting factors. Do you plan on going over 150 on a daily basis? A turbo car in my opinion is less of how fast you can go but how quick you can get there. Both options can get you there but the stroker will have more torque and low end power. This comes with a price. More cash and lower rev limit. I personaly am doing a 2.3 but Like the torque not just going fast.

If I were you I would spend your 2000 on dsmlink, injectors ect (i do not know current mod list) If you build your motor it is not going to really make you any "faster", just alow you to do so without breaking things. Why spend all that money when you can not afford to even utilize it?

I agree with calan...

To the original poster, I would fill out your profile so we know what your car already has. Give us a complete mod list. Then we can tell you how to get the most out of the 2k. 2K isn't going to be enough to build a 2.3 stroker that can handle anything you throw at it.

2.4l
10.5:1 Wiseco HD's
MAP rods.

That's my next build :)

It all depends on what you want to do. I want to do a 35r sized turbo, and not rev past 8k, and have lot's of low end pep. I got talked into using a 2.4 instead of a 2.0 by the engine builder at my work, as my car will be a street/strip car, and my street spool would be a lot more enjoyable.

I do see that you want to go "as fast as you can get up to", are you going to be doing standing mile (longshot), or what's going to be the purpose of the car? You need to take in account valvetrain, drivetrain, and other supporting mods to go fast. If I were you, do a 2g piston/1g rod combo, and have it done right. It doesn't seem like you have the funds to be going as fast as a dsm can get up to..
