I'm trying to put my transmission back in and am having some problems. It's a 1g awd. I have it all seemingly lined up, but I can't push the tranny any further towards the engine. All the bolts are lined up...just having ALOT (as in 3 struggling hours with a friend) of trouble. Is there any special way or advice you guys have?

Thanks!

check if there are any wires dangling between the engine and tranny and also that you have the input shaft lined up the the clutch disk/pilot bearing(assuming that those were already in alignment)

no wires...I checked for the obvious...I mean we've been at it for 3 hours. How can I make sure that the input shaft is lined up? Might be the problem...feels like we've done everything though.

Make sure the clutch disc is centered correctly if you removed the clutch.

Spin the input shaft on the tranny just incase the splines are just not meshing correctly with the clutch disc.

Drop the engine down a little more at an angle watching to make sure that the timing belt side of the engine is not touching the wing etc. Wiggle the tranny up and down while pushing. It will slide on really nice, if your red in face pushing as hard as you can, its not lined up.

what's the easiest way to insure it's lined up? It looks it according to the bolts but it won't slide in. also to turn the shaft can't I just turn one of the wheels with it in gear (or the input shaft for the xfer case)?

on my friends rsx, i had to kick the damn trans into the motor, it was an inch away of it, i knew the input shaft was in the clutch disc by then...

well what we did was get a winch and take off the hoood. that way we could manipulate the trans and not worry about it falling on our faces. once lined up it was hard getting the input shaft into the clutch, but with enough fidgeting and manipulation it finally went in. One thing to note: make sure you have the axel in place on the passenger side before you get the trans in. we didn't and weren't about to take the trans out again so we disconnected the axel from the hub which just added another step to what we had to do.

Test drive tomorrow, but it started tonight so expectations are high. Thanks for the help all.
