there i edit it sorry im new bare with me please im only 18 and new to the game man
Age dont matter. Im 15. :thumb:
I would look for a GSX over A Subie.
Like many members say...Take care of your DSM, and It takes care of you.
These cars are relieable, if you take care of them.
I use mine as a DD, and I had 1 problem with it. But that was a stupid mistake.
PLus you got a AWD TURBO your looking to get. These are cheap HP gainers.
So get a GSX.
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR RELIABILITY and speed, get a Honda V-Tech and turbo it

If I was you I would get the car running and all maintenance done before thinking about running a 11 quarter mile

LOLol np bro. just an FYI neither car will shut up a ZO6 without alot of modification LOL

I think your getting way ahead of yourself here. Don't worry about HP and track times until you have the car up and running with all the maintenance done like every one has been saying. When I bought my second dsm, I thought it would be just a timing issue that it was miss firing, turned out it was a bent valve and its been a pain in the butt ever since; still not running...

Depends on how much money you wanna spend but for a college student wanting to drive it like you are going too, 325-350 should be pretty easy and you can make it reliable.(As reliable as a 10 yr old car can be making 100 more hp than designed for)

my first dsm was a 93 non-turbo ,i was 18-19....am now 25,i knew nothing about these cars at first... i went through 2 engines and have learned alot about these cars and general common sense about them, i now have a 92 6bolt awd turbo and im still learning alot about these cars.....it has made a mechanic out of me for sure......they are nothing like any other tuner car out there and require some general engine knowledge or you will be spending alot of money having a shop work on your car. they are fairly old cars so there will be alot of maintanace to do which will probably take up most of that money you have burning a hole in your pocket. But they are great cars and you will love your dsm more and more everyday, as long as you are willing to learn and have patience.......

If you just want a car to jump in ,mash on the gas, and stay reliable......get a honda.
if you know nothing about engines and how to make power you will never get into 11 sec. quarters no matter what car you own.

Off of personal experience. I wouldn't get a dsm.. If your gonna get a dsm, you should also just get another car for a daily...

I'd agree and disagree with this...
I own 2 dsms a 97 esi and a 96 tsi awd
I've had minor problems with my esi and none to date with my turbo.
It all depends on how you treat them as many of the other people on here have said.

from the sounds of this guy he likes to drive hard and driving a dsm like that everyday will take its toll on it and he will end up with alot of problems.....i went through to 2 4g63 engines (destroyed the crank and bearings) because i have a lead foot ....so i know what he is in for.....ya if he drives it like a cruiser and and stayes out of wot as much as can then it could last him a while with only minor repair.

LOL I agree with military talon. My car is just under 300 and its my race car. its faster than any evo or sti ive come across but its also only a track car LOL. Id say stay around 300. I personally think it kinda dumb to put to much HP in a AWD car. you get to a point were the power is not practical anymore. Where as if your at 300-350 its all usuable power that if you dont gun it every launch your car will last a little while

what if i like to take off really fast like on the streets up to the speed limit or something

alot of people have made over 400hp on a dd....im looking to make over that and still dd my car but alot of tuning comes along with that, and you really have to know what your dealing with.

what if i like to WOT on 400hp and is my DD

Heres my advice to you. If you want to get into DSM's don't buy this 2g with a 6bolt in it. Chances are the seller did the swap wrong and itll take you months or years to get it running right. Find you a clean GSX and go from there. Otherwise it will be a nightmare my friend.

Ive been looking for a year, trying to find a clean awd, but their all trashed.

honestly i think you should just get a subbie. shit if i had the money id get an sti anyday even though i do love my dsm. haha to me it just seems like all this guy is worried about is goin fast and beating it everyday, which will ###### cause alot of problems to the dsm over time. also doesnt seem like he knows very much about these cars or how to take care of them. sure you could always learn, but i think a newer car would be a better option. if you have the 15-20 grand for an sti ofcoarse...

If its running right and all is good, get that instead. Don't start off fixing a car, unless you got it for free. Like one of those more impossible "if you can fix it you can have it".

its ok every once an a while. but like i said the more you do it the faster you ware out your engine, turbo, and everything that makes you go. its just a fact of life.

O/P
What are you thinking. I would pick a STI over any eclipse anyday(besides evo). With the problems that comes with this temper mental car, I would turn my head in a heart beat. Ignore the eclipse.
With common sense, why spend money to make the car JUST to go as fast as the sti? Then some more just to match its corner abilities.
But then sti's do cost more! But the sti has majority if not all the eclipse has. Speed, corners, looks, room, reliability, power + no crankwalk in back of your mind!
you can use this previous thread to make your decision easier! I think of crankwalk every time I drive my car... and no, I also think it's not overrated!

How do I say this...................DSM!

It means get the DSM....DUH! haha but foreal, If you have 20g's to spend on an sti do it, its quick out of the box as it is. However, with 20g's you can buy that 99 GSX make it reliable as your DD and have way more power and handling ability than that stock sti will have.:hellyeah:

but what if im only going to have 7000 to spend on a GSX or my dad will help me with the rest of the money if i get a sti

its buy your own car with 7000 and have no problems with parents taking the car away or have a STI where my parents would whine about me driving it
