Correct, but crankwalk is sort of hyped up, I've read it only really happened to about 35% of 7-bolts, but it's worth the $ for the 6 if you want to be reassured.

thanks man for show and could you help me how would you know the engine is a 7bolt or a 6bolt?

how much would it cost to get a dsm in the low 11's

I didnt even bother reading this whole thread.... I have spent a lot of hours at the drag strip and I have never seen a subaru run an 11sec quater mile. You are way off man, you need to learn the basics about automobiles before you ask questions like that. Any car can run 11 sec quater miles if you have the time and patients. You need to worry about common problems and how to deal with them before you even begin to ask questions about how fast the car is.

Dont forget, patience is a virtue. Any car will test your patience, learn the basics about how an engine works and what the limitations of everyday cars are and go from there...

And for the record, completely disregard all discussion about a six bolt of seven bolt engine, its all overrated, just worry about getting the car and go from there.

hi im 18 and thinking about making a 99 GSX my first car but i have question lik
1. my college is 2 hours away ill be drive back and forth twice a week
2. it has 122xxxmiles
3. i would like to go to the track once in awhile
4. if not should i get a 2005 STI because this is my second choice?

well, subaru's handle like brick on the road, kind of like driving a four wheel drive four wheeler. but on the other hand for a first car, i would not recommend a dsm; unless you have patience like a mofo.

haha DSM have too much problems or what?

I have only had my DSM for about a year and a half and have been moding it since.I can honestly say the only thing that has went wrong with mine was a broken axel and, ac compressor went tits up and I toasted my clutch. No big deal to me just regular maintnance stuff.I also beat the shit out of my car quite a bit.

liike what do you do to beat it up ?

I hit it with a hammerLOL No joking,But I just mean I am in boost 95%of the time,I race from stoplight to stop light,my normal driving consists of 3rd gear to get up to 60 then strait to 5th.I am just mean to it.I just love launching and hearing my turbo and feeling the car pull.

now thats how i want to be man i drive my friends acura LS like that hahaha !!!!!!!! what are your mods? whats your track times?

I have a 16gturbo,dsmlink,pte 1000cc injectors, walbro 255fuel pump, short route front mount, intake exhaust,I only made like 260 hp and 280tq but its a lot better than stock.I need some 272 cams and a full 3in exauhst and I should see some better numbers.I have yet to take it to the track. When I'm done all I want to see is a 12.I am actually debating running my car today and just see what the hell I can do with it I would guess 14 maybe high 13?

how much did all that cost you ? is it a 7bolt ?

I'm really not sure how much it was.The parts I just told you were probably around 1400 I have bought probably over 7k in parts for the car.I paid 5 for the car bone stock 80,000miles.Yeah all 2g cars have a 7 bolt. The 6 was in the 90 and 91.

ohh cool why you buy over 7k in parts for the car?
i thought maybe you did a swap thats why

If 17 year old girls can drive DSMs without them breaking, so can you.

Any car can be reliable if you keep up maintenance and treat it right. My buddy has a Geo freakin Storm that lasted for 300k miles.

Its all how ya treat it.

do you know how evo are 4g63 could you find a wreck evo 9 and swap it or put the internals in a GSX 99?

honestly both cars are amazing. and when it comes to the Subbie DSM thing its all preference. if you want ease of upgrade and wanna do it yourself upgrades the DSM is way better due to the fact boxer engines are alot harder to work on (i know from experience) but if u want a much newer more purpose built street/track car the STi is better (in my opinion) but the GSX is easy to get track ready and if you needed help working on it im almost an expert at these dam DSMS now LOLol. ill send u a PM with my number if you had more questions and if you do decide to look at the DSM before buying you shud have some1 who know what to look for to make sure it seems in good working order for being 122000 miles ya know?
hope that helps
Jeff

man thanks i really apreciate it man im 18 and idk anything .. well just enough like basic so yeah bro thanks

Off of personal experience. I wouldn't get a dsm.. If your gonna get a dsm, you should also just get another car for a daily...

I wouldnt recommend a 2G as opposed to an 05.
Just from reading your responses you don't seem to know too much about cars, and while one can always learn, I would just personally recommend a newer car. And one less prone to breaking.
