Need help Identifying a whine/grind

Alright fellas. I have a 2Gb Talon AWD w/ a manual trans and have a noise from the front of the car that sounds like a wheel bearing going. The passenger side bearing had some play, so I replaced it, and the whine is still there.

The sound is speed related, not engine speed related. It does not go away when I press the clutch or change when I turn. I changed both the t-case and trans oil to be safe. I'm running out of ideas.

Can the bearing on the intermediate shaft cause the noise? Is my t-case on its way out?

did you check the center bearing on your drive shaft?

I've seen that problem with VR4 and 1G's. not common but it happens.
If you have a local shop that you go to you can put it up on the lift and put the car in gear and listen to the bearing.

If the noise happens all the time then it is somewhere on the input shaft, otherwise its on the output shaft most likely. Talk to jack at jackstransmissions.com, hes very knowledgeable and will be able to tell you what the problem most likely is. Good luck!

The volume and the pitch of the noise increases or decreases with road speed. It is a high-pitched whine at 75-80 and slows to more of a bad wheel bearing-grinding sound around 20 and below.

The sound doesn't change with engine speed.If I hold the clutch in and coast from highway speed to a stop, decreases with the road speed and ceases when I stop.

I didn't think the carrier bearings on the driveshaft would be the culprit since I have no extra vibration that I can feel. I will check those though to make sure.
