I have a 1991 Mitsubishi eclipse gsx auto and I have a squeaking noise that I can't figure out where it is coming from. I have replaced the alternator and harmonic balancer but still no luck. Also when I drive through a water puddle the noise goes away for a second. I will pay the person that figures out what the problem is $10 paypal.

Have you tried removing the timing covers to see if it goes away?

Sounds like a belt rubbing sound.

Yes but it doesn't, I'm not sure where the rubbing sound is coming from either. I have also replaced the timing belt and water pump about 3 months ago.

Hmmm I replaced the belts 2 months ago, which belt do you think it is?

It's the loose one. Either A/C or the alternator one.

Edit: I suppose it could even be the power steering one, but that one probably wouldn't be affected by puddles so easily.

If you make another video in which you squirt a stream of water on each belt, one at a time, I could be more precise.

When did the problem start?

throw some belt conditioner on the a/c belt and alt belt. since you say it goes away when wet that should fix it unless it is loose or the timing belt rubbing like said before.

Yes I forgot to mention that I also replaced all the timing components when I changed the belt.

How would I check if it's rubbing on the cover?

Just to throw it out there, have you checked all of your vacuum lines to make sure it's not a cracked/disconnected one causing a boost leak?

Um... Are you sure you posted to the right thread? This one is about a squeaky belt that gets quiet when he gets it wet.

Just a reminder, my paypal is [email protected]

I have tried spraying water on each belt with a hose but it seemed like the noise went away no matter where I sprayed the belts.

pull your altanator / waterpump belt off and see it it make the noise.. if it dosent its one of the two.. if it does.. then something along the timing belt unless u got a/c

The last thing you want to do is oil your belts. When did it start making the noise? Did you do the water trick I suggested yet?

why is belt conditioner (oil) bad, Ive done it to many of my cars without problems. If water stops the noise conditioner should help the problem. just like lotion helps dry skin conditioner helps dried belts. But as many including myself know im not an expert just throwing out some advice.

I replaced my balancer pulley once and turns out it was off by just a little bit which caused this problem but mine eventually threw my belts. Make sure all your belts are running true. If one belt is rubbing on the outside of any pulley just a little bit it could cause this. Good luck
