Well I need help asap because my car is stranded at a home depot because it failed on me once again :banghead::banghead:

Oil was getting into the spark plugs when I checked because my oil cap that I bought new kept leaking and I exchanged it twice and it still kept leaking POS. Well I got new wires and plugs because I thought it was ignition once again but it still runs like shit. It idles around 500 rpms but doesn't sound good at all, once I press the gas it hesitates like a mother efer and eventually will either a) rev up but sound like shit or b) die. Its not my battery because its brand new, got new plugs and wires as well. Don't know what else it could be. I assume it might be the ignition coil but I'm not sure. Had a CEL but it doesn't appear anymore.

The engine shakes and so does the car when its hesitating. I hear a constant clicking sound as well.

Specs:
97 Spyder GS-T
ebay 16g (came with car)
stock

Nope, I would usually get any codes read at autozone or some place. Haven't gotten around to getting my own because of a tight budget. My car is staying alone at home depot because I can't tow it home at the moment...

If you have a spare coil laying around you could swap it and I believe you can test a coil with a ohm meter to check the primary and secondary on the coil. I don't know what the specs are though sure they could be found in a service manual. I Chilton all data Michel on demand ect. No sense in throwing money at it on parts if you don't know what the problem is

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in that has seen this issue before. I myself cant say whether it's a ignition fuel or sensor issue

unplugging maf didn't help for shit haha. I limped it home and it sounded extremely bad, pretty sure I ####ed something up but its home. Had poor throttle response, if I stomped to the floor nothing would happen, it would shut off. If I slowly pressed the gas it would move. Damn this is irritating. It didn't overheat either, it kept blowing smoke out the back tho as if it were backfiring. Smelled awful. It was grey but it was dark so I can't really say for sure.

Whats worse is my neighbor with a supped up turbo prelude saw me limping my car home in shame, it was embarrassing LOL.

WEll its morning, I'll be checking it out shortly, any suggestions are always welcome. Got a cel, what a relief LOL, gonna go check it out hopefully tells me whats wrong.

I know this thread is older, but this is for the people that might have similar problems and run into thir thread:
I had a similar issue once, it ended up being the map sensor connection. I sugguest you look at all important connections MAP, MAF, TPS ect, check for sings of corrosion, water, ect. This are very fragile. Mine were caused by pressure washing the enging. Hope this helps someone

This thread is only 2 hours old, you're good LOL

I've done the unplugging of the tps/maf sensor to see if it was the issue and it still ran bad. I assume those aren't the issues, ima get the code read in a bit.

Ive heard tps can also cause an issue aswell but it seems like your on the right path to fixing the issues you have!

Also when you get time fill out your profile so we know what your car has on it, even if its stock just write that so we all know, we can all assist you a little easier on future issues you may encounter

Unplugging a tps thats bad won't change anything. Only works with bad maf. Reason I didn't tell you to unplug tps and try and limp home.

Also only reason for an mdp sensor is for the egr. It won't do anything if unplugged.

Well you can't just swap it, I hope you adjusted the tps via vfaq when you put it on otherwise it will be just as bad.

I honestly couldn't follow the instructions for 2g's. The 1g and 2g adjustments are supposed to be different or so I've read. the vfaq only does it for the 1g.

Well my TB doesn't have a stop screw, now I need one....

Just adjust the tps till it reads .59v then screw the stop screw in till it reads .61-63v. Thats all. Screw biss screw in all the way then back out 1 3/4 turns. Your idle settings should be good then.

My car was doing the exact same thing. It was that tps. I hope rechecking it does it for you. Did it ever get wet that you know of? mine had a tiny puddle in there and it caused my care to do the same thing yours did one very cold morning.

Ima just get a mechanic to take a look at the car.

Well the mechanic doesn't know what it is... Pretty bad when he doesn't know but atleast he didn't charge.
