So, I have a 2g NT and basically I need some help with some motor swap issues. I sucked water into my CAI a few weeks ago, and apparently it screwed my motor up. I now have a v ery good reason to buy a new motor. I just needed to know what kind of/ and if I can swap my 420a motor for a 4g63. Is there a direct bolt on for this swap and what kind of issues and other components and I going to be getting into?

please help..

its not a cost effective swap to attempt the 4g63 swap. If you want to run a 4g63 better to just buy a gst or gsx. Other wise just look into rebuilding you 420a and turboing it
:talon:

well the issue is that, im really like 18% knowledgeable about cars so Ive got my car being worked on at a import specialist, they say Im better goin with a new motor, and since my car isnt close to bein paid off and my family is paying for the repair, i figured whyt not to the best with what I have. Do you think I would be better buying a 420a and turboing that or a 4g63 and let them do watever?

basically a new car is out of the question and the cost isnt a huge factor.

I doubt the shop would be knowledgeable enough to complete such a "swap." It'd not a simple bolt-in affair; major fabrication is needed.

I think you need to learn to not hydro-lock your engine first, makes no difference 4g63, 420A, B16A1, H22.... CAI is dumb, if it is too low you will destroy this and the next engine. The 4g63 is pretty close to impossible unless you have about $10-12k to drop into a pro shop. Stick with a forged internal N/A engine until you learn how to drive it, than turbo it. Just my honest opinion.

I turboed my 420a and i wish that i would have just bought a performance crate engine that was stroked to 2.2 and that is putting out 240hp. Then maybe turbo that one because i comes forged already. When i forged my 420a and since i had the engine already apart i rebuilt everything like replaced water and oil pump and crankshaft and the turbo kit, i spent close to 8 or 9 thousand. The crate engine is like 5000. I would go that route if i were you.

P.S. The crate engine swap comes with all wiring and ecu and i think new mounts.

That sure is an opinion.

There are air by-pass valves available, placed on the upper portion of a CAI, to help prevent it from sucking up water. Shouldn't jack the guy for driving in deep water (accidents happen), or having a CAI.

zestridge: Don't swap, not worth the money. Instead, think about building a 420a. And getting a by-pass valve for your CAI.

okay, so Im feeling like I should probably stick with the 420a. Since my current engine is havingt low end problems, is there a rebuild kit that i can use to not only modify but enhance the performance of my motor, and maybe make it a bit more ready for a turbo?

where can I find crate motors?

If you plan to turbo, go with low compression 8.8:1 is a good choice.

There is a plethra of answers pertaining to your question if you search these forums.

ok, i dont know if anyone said it yet, but the 4G63's tranny is on the opposite side, so you have that problem to face first of all, not to mention your cam gears are on the driver side. The entire engine is basically reversed.

heres the 4G63. the cam gears are on the driver side. the transmission is on the passenger side.

and here is your 420A. The cam gears are on the passenger side, and tranny is on the driver side.

and not to mention, the motor mounts are different.

hope this helps.

Alright, I've given up on the swap idea, and Im going to go ahead and take the rebuild route. Ive got a link to a couple of rebuild kits that seem to look as if they are complete with all i need to start out. Ive found a motor completely rebuilt on ebay for a couple g's and wasnt sure whether you all had advice on whether I should build it myself witht the help of internet and manuals or buy one already rebuilt. And last but not least, once i get this power, which ever way I go, what kind of ecu work will i need to take part in. Do I need a new comp since I put in a new motor, or do I just need to adjust some things?

Go buy a local mitsubishi dealership and buy the FSM (factory service manual), and then do all the work yourself.

You dont need a new computer, nor do you need to even tune it, your just rebuilding the same motor all sensors and fuel the fuel system is still the same.

When you say, "once I get this power", what do you mean. Do you plan on turbocharging the motor during the rebuild or what? what kind of power do you plan on obtaining?

If i was you i would go with this from your site:

bottom end: 8.6:1 Turbo - .020 ONLY $1099.99

top end: I would get the 180-0012 camshafts. (assuming you plan on turboing)

I appreciate everyone here helpin me out. I'm going to decide what to do between a few options and Ill check back in a couple of weeks with some updates/questions.. thank you.

Which cams would you recommend me to get with this motor???

If i will use a turbo later I should get the 8.6:1 compression, Am I correct?

This motor will be driven without a turbo for about 2 months and then I will install a turbo kit. It will be a Stage2 Kit.

I believe that: 431-0014 would be my best choice.
http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&lvl=4&prt=2036&action=partSpec&partNumber=431-0014

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just got into this. I used to own a Conquest.
Now I just got myself an Eclipse w/420a Engine.

P.S. What would be the redline on this motor??? Will it still be ~6.5k or will it change?
