Ok, I have a 97 eclipse Rs and I am looking to make this thing have some serious power. I have some ideas on what I want to do and need some advice from people that have lived this adventure that I am about to embark on.

Anyways I am wanting to turbo my motor but as I have read its not very smart to go above 8psi on stock internals. So I am looking at the 2.2L master engine rebuild on howellautomotive.com. Is this a good rebuild kit and what other parts are going to be needed along with this?

Turbos! I am looking at the hahn 16g turbo. Any good? I know if I go with this I will need bigger injectors but what else? As you can tell I now little about this stuff. I dont want to start off mildly I want a car that can hit 350-400hp.

Also any recommendations on a clutch kit and brakes? What else am I going to need to get this car to be able to push 400hp? Just to let you know I have about 6-10k to drop on this car.
Looking to do all the work by myself besides the boring and honing.

Thanks.

If you have that kind of money i would just sale the rs and get your self a turboed car. And you won't need to build the engine to get that kind of power. And you don't have to go thru all those troubles.

We've had some trouble in the past with owners of factory turbocharged DSMs coming into these forums and advising N/T DSM owners to sell their cars and buy a turbocharged car. That is not to happen anymore. If you do not own a N/T DSM and have never owned one, you should not be giving any advice in this forum. Go use the other forums. If we hear of people coming in the the N/T forums and giving N/T owners a hard time or suggesting they sell their cars and buy turbo cars, those users will be suspended or banned.

Rules?

I have looked around the area and the only gs-t or gsx I can find is for about 6k but they are all high mileage and would need the engine rebuilt anyways. Plus this way sounds a little bit more fun, also I will learn a lot more.

You will learn a lot, turbocharging a car that was not meant for boost.

Generally a master rebuild kit comes with everything needed. Howells kit includes many parts that we use anyways. I say a good kit.

I am not the turbo expert here, but I think for you goal you may want a larger turbo. Are you planning on buying Hahn's turbokit? Or just their turbo? If you buy Hahn's kits, they come with everything. If not, you need to source the rest of the turbo and fuel systems. You will probably want their Portfueler for the big numbers you have in mind, or MS(nS).

See South Bend Clutch for the clutch. For brakes, well, the first thing you should get are sticky tires. Outside of that, there are a decent amount of brake options out there. For 400hp you will probably want some head work done.

Check out the profiles of the few 350hp+ 420a guys around here, see what they are running.

Are there any good books that I should go out and get? I bought the Haynes Complete tear down and rebuild and also Turbochargers by Hugh Macinnes.

yeah for turbo's your goning to want somehthing that can handle at around 600hp, if your looking for 350-400whp......I figure start with a T3/T4, something with a good size a/r like .63 or bigger, and a good sized inlets.

Hopefully this isn't over-simplifying it... just throwing out an idea. With your budget you could buy the Howell 2.2L crate motor and the Hahn turbo kit and go with the 20g. Those two together will run you about 9k if my memory serves me correctly, and that way you have a fully built motor top to bottom, stroked, head work, cams, you name it - plus everything you need for your turbo setup. Then that last grand could go towards a clutch setup and MS (megasquirt).

that is a huge amount of money to drop all at once on your car, but you said you want to start off serious and go straight to big power. what I said is just a quick way you can get a badass motor, turbo it, tune it, and get the power to the wheels for around 10k. I've got the Howell 2.2 in my talon right now, but I'm still saving money so I can go turbo and tune it all at once in my next step - so I can't exactly say how great the motor is from personal experience yet because I'm running it NA at the moment.
