I have been modifying my daily driver GST fwd/auto for speed (highlights include 16g mh1 turbo, ets fmic, thermal turbo back exhaust, 1100cc injectors, 1g bov, aeromotive fp, injen cai, arp headstuds, dsmlink tuned for roughly 20psi) and I was considering the possibility of trying an autocross course with the car.

The car is currently sitting on stock brakes and suspension. I was told the brakes have roughly half their life left and the suspension gets slightly bumpy on the expressway. I'm thinking about upgrading both of these items in the near future.

What is a comfortable suspension (price not an issue) and a good brake setup that would be suitable for autocross? Any other items necessary for chasis stiffening, etc? Also, would a different cam setup help for this type of racing category? (currently I have stock cams in place)

Thanks for any help.

I second the GSX brake setup. Make sure to get braided steel brake lines to ease the installation. If you are going to still DD the car then go with slotted OR vented rotors, not both as they will wear your pads faster than a regular rotor. Otherwise, V/S rotors are perfect. As far as suspension....? Depends on how heavy you plan on getting into AutoX. If you just want to dabble in it a bit, I would suggest a 1.5" - 2" drop in the springs and a set of KYB adjustable struts along with front and rear tower bars and maybe upgraded suspension bushings with beefier front and rear sway bars. I don't know enough about the 4g63 trans to recommend any kind of LSD insert...

I would also look into getting new motor/trans mounts to ensure the power hits the ground and you don't wheel hop. If you are seeing decent power already then I wouldn't worry about your cam setup. If you get further into AutoX and desire more suspension tunability then I would go with a set of full coilovers for your suspension and maybe some adjustable cam gears before the cams. Also keep in mind, tire width will play a role in your G holding capabilities, AKA cornering traction.

It all boils down to how deep your pockets are....
