I have a 95 awd tsi. And my goals are reliable 400 to 500 hp. Not a drag car, just a cruiser and dirt road rally. I am building a 2.4LR. Manley rods and pistons. Fp2 cams. Link v3 full. I want to run a hx35 eventually but I want to start tuning/learning/calibrating on my small16g. I am trying to do one thing at a time.

I'm at the point where I need to chose a fuel pump. The wally 255 is affordable and proven. But my question is do I NEED an afpr with the 255. I've been researching and lurking for a long time. But I've read tons of opinions but no real explanation why one is needed unless you're changing base fuel pressure.

I'm not really a noob here but this seems to be the best place to post this.

How do I mod the stock one? I haven't seen a write up or anything on that.

I'm running Manley pistons stock bore for 4g64 9.5 to 1. I'd like to lower my compression some. But have yet to figure a good way.

I would at least mod the stock one and get a fuel pressure gauge. What pistons are you going to run? 4g64 or g4cs?
He just said Manley rods and pistons.

Op the 255 is a good pump and if you ever needed more than that then dual 255s would be good. if you have link then you can adjust your fuel settings so even if it increased your fuel pressure you would just measure the pressure and put that into link's injector settings. Get a pressure gauge to go on top of your fuel filter or in your fuel rail.

You'd be better off with higher compression. Also just because your pistons say 9.5:1 doesn't mean that's your actual compression. There are many other factors to consider. http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-figure-compression-ratio.468895/
Also for the fuel pump like I said get the 255 and do this.

With this.

Thanks. I'm planning my g4cs build right now that's why I asked about pistons. As far as your fpr goes, I read a tech article on it somewhere. Google dsm fpr mod and it should pop up. Have you looked into running a thicker head gasket to lower compression? I've heard of people doing it. 9.5:1 should be fine with tuning software though.

I wont be able to configure compression till later. But thank you for the help. I've already got the stock pump rewired. I might re do it. I'm going Google for mod now. Thank you

There is really no reason to do anything until your fpr is being
over run (fuel pump is pumping more than the fpr relief port can handle). I would start with getting a fuel pressure gauge and when you get it up and going you can go from there to determine if you need to upgrade it or not.
