2G Need help with build!

So, a few questions. I have a stock 2g Eclipse GST and I don know what path to go down when it comes to engines. I wanna go 6 bolt but have no idea what I'll need. Or just build a 7 bolt? I have a 16g turbo and 510cc injectors that i want to put on the car, but the main problem is that the engine has 189k miles on engine. I need a rebuild that could handle at least 350 whp. Or if there is anything i can do to make my car less prone to blowing quicker. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to get me started it would be greatly appreciated.
 
You need a goal for the car. Otherwise....if you don't know where you're going any road will get you there.
Modding the car without stating what you're doing or why is pointless. We can't possibly tell you what to do if you don't tell us what you're trying to accomplish.

Make OBJECTIVE statements.
The car is too slow for my liking so I want 50, 75, 100, 500 more horsepower...etc.
The car handles so so, I'd like to be able to take a corner at 1g.
Blah blah blah...the list is infinite.

Build the car for what you want it to DO.....NOT a list of parts you want to have.

I was just commenting on what motor to go with(6 bolt), IMHO since he has almost 200k on the 7bolt, of course the OP should read through the FAQ's regarding the different stages and set a goal..
 
I would agree with the 6 bold idea. It would also give you more time to figure out better what you want out of the car. If you'd like a reliable 350whp daily then that's a base of sorts. Or meanwhile do the suspension, maybe some stuff that's not more towards engine work until it's time for the swap. But I wouldn't build on the motor with almost 200k and it wouldn't be worth the money to rebuild/refresh it in my opinion.
 
I have a built 7 bolt in a gst. That Ive never had a problem with. I have had several 7 bolts with no problems. 6 bolt isn't a cure all IMO. ‍♂️

Didn't say "cure all" just said preference IMHO, and I would say 75% of the DSM community would agree.. If you are going to start with a new build go 6 bolt all the way... :D
 
I just rebuilt my trans, new clutch new fork, new control arms. then the motor is next , new timing belt pullies ect. get everything redone.
 
If it's split thrust 7 bolt then it's better than a 6 bolt. The crank walk issues were solved and you won't have to convert to 6 bolt.
 
Yeah is there another advantage to a 6 bolt other than crank walk? I feel like if you have the 98 and 99 7bolt you're good to go.
 
98 and 99 they revised the oil squirter on the thrust bearing I believe.. (might want to check me on that) so they are a little more reliable. As far as crankwalk goes, it'd be like hitting the lottery. I wouldn't concern yourself with that "what if" though others might disagree. I hate to say it cause it's what I have in my car but the 97 7bolt is probably the most prone to issues. As for the other "advantages", again the biggest would be the thicker connecting rods and lower compression ratio which is better for turbocharged applications. If your building a motor. Your not using factory(I'd hope) so making the argument over stock internals would be mute. IMO crankwalk has been debated for years. It happens to all motors 6 or 7 bolt, that's fact. Just my 2 cents.
