Real quick. My car worked fine. I took out my current tranny and put in another so I could have my current tranny resealed. I put this other tranny in I got for cheap and when I started up my car there was no noise. If you rev it up a little bit at all there is this nasty chattering/grinding noise, but if you push in the clutch and rev it up the noise goes away. I tried to drive it slow and it felt not right, when I floored it it felt like the clutch slipping big time, but my clutch is good, everything was cool before.

I even took out the clutch fork, pivot ball and TOB from my tranny and swapped it over. I just dropped the noisy tranny and everything looks good with my clutch. I called the guy I got the tranny from and he told me it sat out in the rain for like 3 weeks and it was full of water until the day I picked it up, but he said it shoulda been fine. I know that is a red flag, but is this a common problem with the tranny or clutch/flywheel?

Another thing I thought was clutch chatter, but Ive never heard it before. I noticed the clutch engagement was right off the floor and it wasnt before, but this would make me think the TOB couldnt be dragging on the PP fingers because of the engagment being so quick off the floor, and it dosent do it at idle.

any water on the bearings inside the transmission sitting for a some time will collect rust. It can score up a bearing and bearing race really quick and destroy a transmission from all of the scattered shavings and pieces. Does the transmission make more of a shhshhhh sound or a khhh and rumble. Either way if you can return the transmission than If i were you I would. By any chance you didnt forget to add fluid did you? What kind?

The sound is like a coffee grinder? Thats how I can best describe it, and its only with the clutch engaged, but its driveability is horrible. Yes, I did add fluid, I put ATF in to flush out the tranny, Ive done this on a couple of other AWD trannies that sat for awhile, I usually put like 2 miles on it with the ATF and then drain it and throw in syncromesh and royal purple.

I was leaning to the tranny having a rusted clips or something in it that tore something up, because my whole clutch is solid, fork is good, pivot ball shimmed with a washer and a OEM TOB.

You have a bad bearing inside of the trans. I think if I remember right, its the one on the input shaft.

What is happening is that when you push the clutch in, the pressure plate is no longer spinning the clutch disc therefore the input shaft is no longer spinning inside the trans. Thus, no noise. Let out on the clutch, the noise returns because the input shaft is now spinning on that bad bearing again.

Had the same problem on my daily driver a couple years back. Lucky for me, I live 5 minutes from TRE.

Yeah a bad bearing . Only way to go is rebuild or you can try taking the trans apart but you have to have a shop press, bearing seperaters, pullers, parts washer, and allot of other tools to do the job the right way.
