This has been a problem for weeks now, although it didnt hit hard until this morning. It started off by me having to use all my force just to shift my car into first gear. All the other gears shifted smooth. Just about a week ago it began doing this with all gears and grinding really nasty with reverse. Well this morning I couldnt get my car into first gear, i gave it everything I had. (i even applied pressure with both hands pushing as hard as I could) I finally got it and second and third still were tough but they went in. Well when I came to a stop I was fighting again to shift into first. (I had people behind me honking cause I was taking so long) Once I began to move and shifted to second and third my clutch pedal started getting stuck when i pushed it in. WTF??? I literally had to pull it out with my toes from underneath the pedal. My question is, is it time for a new clutch or is it something more serious? Like the tranny? Thanks for any input you guys can give me........ :thumb:

Just to give you a 2-cent opinion, I think it's the clutch. It would be a big coincidence if it was your tranny and the clutch pedal got stuck also.

My car has the very early signs of what you have, but nothing serious. Yet. If I'm just sitting there and try to stick it in first or reverse, it grinds. I have to stick it in second first, then into first. I have a new clutch in the mail right now so I'll let you know if that fixed it.

master cylinder

I'm having the same problem right now as well. yesterday i adjusted the rod going to the clutch master cylinder, then took it out for a drive and it was great, it shifted smooth. Then last night I was driving home and it was horrible, it was impossible to get into gear. The clutch pedal kept getting stuck, and i was sitting in the middle of an intersection for about 30 seconds. I need a new clutch as well cuz mine has been slipping for some time now. I'm gonna try ajusting that rod again, cuz maybe it came undone a little bit. Do you think my master cylinder is bad, or just the clutch?

I dont think you would want to force it into first gear. My car had a 2100ACT in it for only 5-10k miles. One day drove it to the store and at the stop light, first gear wouldn't go in. I force it it a couple of time and finally went in. Then it got stuck in first gear and didn't want to come out. Drove of slowly to the side and force it back to neutral, ''thats when I lost my clutch''. Even on neutral the car was still in some gear and did not move at all. The tow truck had to force the car up the bed. The shop took it apart and said everything was destroy and need new tranny.
So becarefully, don't force any gears in. I recomend you taking it to a good local tranny shop for inspection before anything gets worste like mine. Cost me $2000 for new tranny not install. It was hard to find use one at the time.

Agreed.

My GF truck did the same thing. The clutch pedal would stay to the floor and wouldnt pump up. There were no leaks in the system so I replaced the master cylinder. Problem fixed.

BUt was it also hard for her to shift into gears??

And thanks for the help guys, im hoping this will be a pretty cheap fix. :thumb:

broke your shift rails trying to get it into gear

slave and master cylinder agreed with blue, mine does that too but local clutch doctors said slave and master cylinder. I belive from a clutch shop is was 300 or so for both

Master cylinder is around 100, slave is around 60. Ian if you pay 300 for a slave and master... i'll do nothing. but i will laugh.

Just mine story of 1st not going in.

I dont know if it is the clutch but it does sounds like you have what i had. when i bought the car the 1st gear would not go in. took it apart at home turns out to be the bearings were busted on the gear cluster and when you try to shift to first the gear cluster was just moving awey. it left few marks on the case from gear cluster rubing on it. Got new bearings, all 3 forks, synch and the problem was solved. Now thou my clutch feels like sometimes it dont want to come back and sometimes hard to push down. I think its the cylinder thats going but i could be wrong. cost me $630 worth of parts from dealer and not counting the labor. :thumbdown
