Hey guys im pretty much new to the dsm world i was a beamer guy (every one in my house and the non tuners think its a big downgrade, not to me im in for a great dsm ride) my dsm is just sitting in the driveway waiting for me, ok heres the problem i bought a 95 talon tsi 3 wks ago and the engine vibrates really bad, i know its not the mounts because their new, i got the timing checked it that was fine according to my buddy who used to work on the 2g tsi when they 1st came out, but what i do know is the balance shafts have been removed and the engine is running real rich from my wideband, to the sparkplugs being black to the engine oil, and its completely untuned its got a new big 16g turbo now ive heard the balance shaft removal would cause noticeable vibration but i dont know if it would cause this kind of vibration, otherwise i drove it from a shop to my house about 10mins away and it ran fine thank god but i ran it on low boost, i bought it with 750injectors which are to big so i swapped them for 560s, any help would be really appreciated because i want to drive this car a bit before winter

Well, removal of the balancer shaft will definitely make the engine sound more rough. The running rich plus having black plugs may also play in very slightly in the way of improper combustion. I would definitely find a local DSM shop or expert to give it a one over (or three) just to make sure there isn't anything major going on.

Smart move losing the 750's for 560's. The 750's couldn't be tuned with an AFC...you'd be dumping fuel into the crankcase which would wash your engine bearings and kill the motor in 1000 miles.

Do yourself a favor and at least set your AFC to globally compensate for the 560's (which would be around -18% to -20%) so you don't kill your engine before you get it tuned. If you want to play with tuning yourself a bit, you'll probably need to take away more fuel for the low-throttle settings and add some for high-throttle.....it'll just take some time to get used to how the AFC works.

well it looks like the guy before you was prob running really rich since he had those 750's in there. if i were you i would start by replacing the spark plugs and set your afc to fit your new 560's. your car for sure will run alot better than when you first got it if you do this.

Yes I agree. You likely have fouled plugs, bad plug wires, or failed coil. All are pretty common on older cars. If you have big injectors and depending on your tune they will run fatter at idle and eat up plugs. I'd scan for codes. If you have a P0300 (random misfire) or P0301, 302, 303, 304 you have a misfire in one or more cylinders. Check it and get back to us. If you don't have any codes stored I'd perform a fuel pressure test and compression test. I'm betting dollars to donuts it's an ignition problem. Very common...
