I just bought a 1990 Talon ES with a 4g63. The gentleman said it just needed that timing belt replaced as it was fraying when he drove it down the road. I noticed first hand there is not any tension when i move the Cam gears, so i took the valve cover off. Every rocker arm was sitting in the head, and one had even split in half. i took the cams off and there are several huge gouges in the intake cam. I then decided to see if the crank pulley would line up with its respectful timing mark and it will only go a quarter rotation counter/clockwise before it catches on something. Then when i removed the spark plugs #1 cylinder plug was smashed as if the piston slammed up into it. I'm going to continue tearing the engine down tomorrow, but if anyone has an idea as to what might be the culprit, advice would be greatly appreciated.
