What's up tuners, I have a question about the MSD ignition box dis-2 and if anyone would reccomend it for a non turbo car in general or if it'll work on my 1991 Eagle talon base model. 4g63 n/a I just bought a header back system and had a cold air intake already with stock rebuilt ECU. Just swapped to 5 speed tranny so I wanted to know what you guys think about the spark box an if it gives me a healthier running motor or will I regret my purchase. Thanks for your input! I need help:hellyeah:

My 2.0 usually backfired meaning too much fuel or it getting past the valves and igniting. Do you think this would control it to a cleaner riding DD? I was thinking to take advantage of the 2-step feature but benefit off it ass well.

And as far as turbo goes, I'm trying to earn and save money inside my base model talon then get any AWD turbo car, prefferably 2g

No I don't think the DIS-2 is going to do anything to fix the backfiring.

You sure it's backfiring not missing? If it's backfiring into intake there's a lot to check before making any purchases.

It backfires at mid to high rpms when not on the gas coming down a hill. I feel my car runs really rich and I already have the cold air intake but I was thinking to balance it all out with either a SAFC or the DIS-2. It pops a lot when driving down my steep driveway so I'm pretty sure it's all exhaust detonation

Sorry, I didn't guess you talking about exhaust popping/backfiring. Do you have a catalytic converter anymore?

The IPS (idle position switch) is used by the ECU to note when the throttle is closed and turn off the injectors. On a 1G it needs a good ground to the throttle body to work. Also check the green wire that runs to the IPS on the firewall side of the throttle body, they get old, brittle and break off.

HahaROFL your right. But i would buy a turbo car if I wanted to boost. I'm keeping this my DD n/a but was wondering the cheapest ECU upgrade or for 2 step feature which is why I thought MSD dis-2 in the first place. Comparing my 4g63 to how Honda have a cheap little simple ECU chip for better running car, EVEN THOUGH I understand DSM is nothing like a Honda, I just want to try n be faster non applicable

What do you need a two step for in a DD?

If you want to play, find a EPROM NT ECU and learn how to modify the code like we do with the turbo cars, then you can add your own two step code and tune the maps, etc.

Who doesn't want to 2 step??? Haha it sounds mean, plus with my steep driveway all I would have to do is 2 step and launch up my steep long driveway HAHA I'm in the process of going auto to 5 speed so its about time to dial down the clutch. Why do they make DIS-2 boxes to begin with if it wouldn't effect DDing.
Aside from that, how would you tune a nonturbo EPROM? Dsm link or is there a cheaper way of going about it? I've seen $75 chips on eBay that seem plug n play but says guaranteed results I just haven't looked into it yet

I think that with a little set up help, anybody can use the Tuner Pro method of tuning. There's enough discussion and BIN files on the Yahoo Groups DSM-ECU for the N/A's. He could be up and running with just a couple of hours worth of reading. All he really has to do is realise what good advice he is being given and by who. LOL. I've never even learned how to use an SAFC, simply because Tuner Pro is so easy to use, and it's the cheapest method to be able to fully tune.

Haha I'm glad to be the horse led into water, but please note I don't have a laptop or PC. Only thing I own is an iphone4 and a 91DSM base model. Haha an a little to a lot of bread. I was thinking since I already have header back plus cold air intake to just balance it all with that SAFC but I also want my ECU to think smarter
