I have a 95 eclipse that I rebuilt about 2 years ago. The only real modification to the internals was a balance shaft elimination. Recently I've notice a bad clatter noise coming from the engine, especially when cold and during engine breaking. It sounds similar to something hitting the flywheel however its on the timing belt side. This noise is not lifter tick, it almost sounds like somethings rubbing on the back side of the timing case. I know its hard to diagnose a noise when you can't hear it but I'm hoping someone has heard the same noise and found out what it is.
