Well I noticed I haven't seen too many new threads pop up so I decided to just make my thread about my turbo build instead of wait until I had more done. I haven't gotten too far because I have yet to receive all my parts, but I just finished my fuel upgrades yesterday. It will probably be a few weeks still before it is done. I installed the Walbro 255 fuel pump and Vortech FMU and it went semi-smooth I should say. Had to make a few trips to Lowes and Autozone before I had everything I needed haha. Thanks to DSMCrazy3 for some help and tips (He will be around for most of the install so I think I will be in good hands haha) Here are some pics, forgot to take some for fuel pump install, but that is pretty straight-forward.

Painted in my custom paint class in college. Used Dupont Jet Black. Turned out real nice IMO.

Well that's all I have for now, I will keep updating this thread as I do more to it. Thanks for the space guys and all comments and critizism is welcome.

Wow those pics brought back some nightmares of my install... hmmm... Is the pump intank or inline? I don't understand why you mounted the FMU so far away from the turbo. Because you want it as close as you can get it to get a quicker and more accurate vacuum reading. This is important when you stomp it and want quicker response. Just my personal opinion...

Looks good so far though. You may want to buy some mini t-bolt clamps for the lines on the FMU also. Worms clamps will work, but the mini t's have a stronger pinch and design. Just food for thought...

What else do you have to do for it to take a couple more weeks? Fab up a downpipe or what?

Have crazy3 bring his 27mm deep socket too, you'll need it for the sending unit.

P.s- Use TEFLON tape on the the threads, if you can, there's a certain type specialized for feul and oil. It should be in a yellow plastic housing ys. the normal white.

acutually use the teflon liquid sealant and give it proper cure time. It really is elite when it comes to thread sealing.

Ok... try it with me. F-U-E-L. It goes "U," then "E." F-U-E-L.

He needs to put his FMU all the way back there because of how the 96+ fuel system is configured. Unless you re-do the fuel lines, and add a return from the fuel rail, that's the only place the FMU can go.

And like 4UH8ERS said, use Teflon paste (joint compound) rather than Teflon tape. The tape can rip off and clog lines/orifices.

Well actually the fittings on the FMU were a little bigger than the fuel line so it took quite a while to get the hose to fit around it. I'm not too worried at all about it coming off because I can't even pull the hose off with my hands if I tried haha.

DSMCrazy3 is kindly giving me his manifold off his turbo setup because he owes me a little cash and wants to upgrade. Treadstone manifolds are on backorder for a couple weeks so that's what we are basically waiting on. He is also giving me his internal wastegate setup and downpipe as he won't be needing these anymore.

Oh yeah, we won't forget about that haha.

That would be correct Paul, thanks for clearing that up.

I'm kind of confused by what you guys are saying. Put the teflon paste where? Around the FMU's fuel fittings? It has some around the vacuum port on the top already.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, it is an intank pump, Walbro 255.

on your oil line fittings.

No, the teflon I was referring to was for the pump feed line. To drop the pump in you had to disconnect the stock lines. To re-connect them you need to screw in the line. Use teflon tape on the threads. If you gum up the paste while trying to assemble it back, and need more then one shot at doing it correct, you can accidentally have it (paste) slip(fall) into the tank or line, thus clogging up the filter when primed. Yea that sounded confusing but whatever. It's hard to explain with the horrible design/set-up/location of our feul system...

That sucks you have to mount the FMU so far away. You need those vacuum lines to be as efficient as possible. WOOT for 95's and the firewall... :thumb:

I'd still use Teflon paste for the fuel lines... It had a greater chance of dissolving and flowing away harmlessly than chunks of Teflon tape.

Blitz, just a question, why do you type "feul" instead of "fuel"? It has always bothered me and I was just wondering.

I could not have said it better myself!!!

Just for clairification, he lives at my house currently. All the tools needed will be here, as well as myself. :thumb:

I've been the driving force behind this whole thing, whether Mike wants to admit it or not :p

Really more of a hassle than it's worth. If the lines did leak, it would be easier to just double up on the worm clamps.

As for the teflon treating around the hardline from the fuel pump assembly. I see where you guys are coming from I guess, but my car came without it, and after my install I didn't have any and have had 0 problems to this day.

To a certain extent, haha.

UPDATE:

The last of the main parts should be in this week so I will take some pics for everyone to see once they come in. Hopefully the Treadstone mani ships sometime soon then we can keep this project a-movin :thumb: .

you know sometimes you just type so fast, and when you learn to type a certain way, I guess it just sticks, and typing the E before the U just seems to be his thing.

As for crazy and "mike", is there a reason you guys have this deadline?

I spell it like that because it throws you all off. Haha, no, j/k. I don't know why or how I always mispell it but I figure you all know what I meen. Feul or Fuel it's all the same thing. You work for the bank, the bank works for me, ifso facto, I'm your boss.. :thumb: (dodgeball)

Damn man, I wish I had a Wiseman around here to help me with my turbo install.

Haha, well we were discussing this whole boosting issue one day, then figured out roughly how long it will take to buy all the parts while still saving some cash. Then I told him to set a month to have this done by, and he wouldn't LOL..So I just said fine..September. Ever since then that's just what we've been striving for

Misc. gauges should come in tomorrow. I'll probably wire those all up along with the FCD on friday because it's my day off. I went with a Lo-Tek full a-pillar pod because I wanted to go with tan this time. I had an Autometer full pod in black at one time, but decided to change it up and they didn't have tan availiable. I'll let you guys know how well it fits and looks later on friday. BTW I got it from www.gaugepods.com

No they aren't. There is a little beading on the intercooler thought. I don't think I will have to worry too much about having that done since I only plan at boosting around 5-6 for the time being. I put one of the couplers on a pipe and HAND-TIGHTENED the t-bolt clamp on it and I couldn't even pull off the coupler without trying pretty hard. I think it should be able to handle fine. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh, the couplers are 4-ply silicone ones also. Pretty thick stuff.

Yeah, just clamp those t-bolt couplers down tight and you should be fine. My pipes don't have any beading either, and I haven't had a pipe pop off yet.

5-6 psi you are fine with no bead but above 8 psi, i dont care what clamp you use. Trust me, with the correct t-bolts and couplers I blew mine off several times Shootout weekend. Hell the coupler on the pipe at the turbo let go on Buschur's dyno. Talk about a let down, i never did get any numbers that day.... :(

Terry

Alright well that is good info to hear Terry, I'll keep that in mind.

Well I got the gauges wired and going today, I'll get some pics of that on saturday most likely. I have Boost, Oil Pressure, and Water Temp on the A-pillar. Did that all in record time haha, around 1 hour for everything. No time to fab brackets for intercooler today or hook up FCD, but I'll do that on saturday as well.
