Well yesterday my turbo blew so now im getting a 16g hehe anyway I dont want it to spool so I took off the wastegate arm. I ran it around the block and it seemed fine not boosting but really I have no idea if it will hurt anything if its not connected. I just dont want to cause engine damage by boosting it to even 1 psi just to be safe.

SO my question is what will happen if I leave the wastegate arm disconnected?

Nothing, unless your blown turbo is dumping oil into the exhaust and intercooler piping. In that case, the oil will clog the catalytic converter (if there is one) and cause a ton of smoke to pour out of the exhaust.

Alright cool the seals are still fine. Just the fins hitting the compressor housing. Its gotta last until friday haha

I know I'm not a wiseman but no I would NOT drive it at all. If the compressor wheel is rubbing wouldn't that send flakes of aluminum into the intake/motor?

It will never do more than hook the blades a little, especially if he has the wastegate actuator disconnected where the turbo cannot make any boost pressure. At the worst he'll have a little metal in the lower intercooler piping, but nothing would make it through the intercooler.

Yea I read somewhere that that happens but it goes into the "explosion" when the piston comes up and it get obliterated. As long as its not like a chunk of aluminum.

Yea im not getting an ebay 16g but a super 16g that is genuine. But I have to get 660cc injectors and 190lph fuel pump if I wanna run higher boost.

Pics of said 16G....Mitsubishi never produced a "Super 16G", but Hahn marketed such a beast which was nothing more than a Small 16G with a different compressor cover and a T3 10cm turbine housing.

if the compressor has lodged itself into the housing then its not going to move, especially since the WG flapper will be open. If he did have any particulates that came off, they are likely already through and out the tailpipe, but its still a concern which is why i think he should still limit driving time to as little as possible.

I blew a turbo on my evo while i was on vacation I drove it back to pa about 100 miles with wg arm disconnected and didnt cause any problems..

just looked at the ad again and it says Big 16g not super haha

That's fake alright.

The adjustable wategate arm is the most obvious tipoff.

It's hard to see in the crappy photo, but it doesn't appear to have the TD05H cast into the compressor housing either.

how do you know?
Read the two posts above this one for reinforcement...you can buy this identical piece brand new all day long on eBay for under $200. Guaranteed to last 5 minutes or 5 miles, whichever comes first.

One out of every twenty makes it past the first oil change.

I will vouch for all above comments from a personal expierence...friend bought one and put it on and three days later we were takin it off because of the compressor blades on rubbing on the housing and it looked identical to the one in the pic...sorry man it'll be fun for a few pulls...on my buddys 97 gs-t it was a blast all 3 days.

I bet it says evoIII turbocharger stamped on the raised part on the compressor housing

just a random question...why dont 16g's have an adjustable WG arm
