Ok, here are the details of my car before I tell you what happened. I just picked up the car last night. It's a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. As for the mods, it has a small 16g turbo, mk3 supra side mount intercooler, intake, 2.5 inch turbo back exhaust and a manual boost controller. The guy who I bought it from said that the person before that he purchased the car from had the motor rebuilt at 100k and had the head ported and polished. Didn't really care if it was true or not since I got it for a good price. The car now has 132,xxx miles on it. Anyway, today I picked up a SAFC II because the one that used to be in it was stolen from the previous owner. My friend and I messed around with the safc and got the car running a lot better. It was bogging out at full throttle before that. After we got it running nicely for a full day I made a stupid choice to play around with the boost controller. I had it a 12lbs of boost but decided to turn it up. I wound up hitting 16lbs at 6000-6500 rpm and then a heard a poof noise. Ever since then when I just step on the gas lightly it says I'm pushing 10-14lbs driving normally. The car rides all rough. The motor sounds fine, but it backfires a lot. The oil pressure was fine and the temperature was staying at about 1/4 of the way (lower than usual). It isn't leaking any oil. Does this sound like the turbo is shot?

what kind of fuel does this car have?

also, you said there is no oil leakage, but do you have oil burning up in your exhaust? (it will be blue).

pull of your intake arm and do 2 things, check for shaftplay (in and out, and side-to-side) - if there is so much that the comp wheel is hitting the housing, it's shot.

if there is oil blowby in your intake arm (i mean a good amount) or there is oil burning in your exhaust, your seals could be shot.

kind of a common post.. but .. did you make sure you didnt blow off an IC pipe connector? i did the same thing a while ago and it did a similar thing

We'll I reconnected the intercooler piping. It blew off where it connects to the intake manifold. Any I went to go take it for a test ride and it wouldn't boost past 6lbs and it was struggling to get to redline, it was breaking up. I pulled into a gas station and my friend asked me to rev it up and he noticed that I was shooting oil out of my exhaust. He looked under the car because he noticed a little puddle of oil under it after a revved it up. He said it looked like it was comming from the downpipe. I'm about to go outside and take the intake arm off and check the turbo like someone recomended. If this motor is shot, anyone know where in LI, NY I can find a new motor or get this one rebuilt?

I just took the intake arm off, there is no shaftplay. Could it be that there is a leak somewhere in the IC piping so it's not hitting full boost? I don't know about the shooting oil out of the exhaust though.

EDIT: I also looked in the intake arm for oil, like someone recommended. There's no oil in it.

sounds like your head gasket could have blown. id do a compression check

where the hell did you get that idea WTF

your motor is NOT blown. you just have an ailing engine. However, DO do a compression check and make sure all cylinders are in spec. It still sounds like it is a combination of turbo and another problem.

check your spark, sounds like bad plugs/wires

Will do a compression test and change spark plugs/wires. Still don't know why I was shooting oil out of my exhaust though. I also forgot to mention that it says that it's only going to 6psi on the cheap aftermarket boost guage that came with the car, on the stock boost guage it says it's hitting around 12psi. It also does a weird thing every once in a while. The check engine light will come on and the stock boost guage will stop working and the idle jumps to 1500rpm. When the check engine light goes off the stock boost guage starts working again and the idle goes back down to 900-1000rpm. But, when I rev it up, when the rpm's start coming down again it will go all the way down to like 500 and back up to like 1000 and bounce back and forth a couple times like it's going to stall. Sometimes it does stall when I do it. The guy I bought it from said that the cel is on because it has no cat. Havent checked to see what code it's throwing.

you just said the same thing i did with a compression check. your motor isnt blown when yourhead gasket goes. dont argue some thing and then post the same thing :nono:

Not being able to build past 6psi could be a boost leak. My car wouldnt go over 10 psi with my small leak. My ic was dented and the coupler couldnt make a secure fit so it only held 10 psi. Oil could be from your oil return line could have very well cracked from wear and tear.

no you're right.. reread my quote... I thought you said he blew his motor :boring:

reading too fast isn't good for me haha

I was having a problem where my car would fully boost at 4,500 RPMS and would run like crap at that point. My intercooler piping had oil in it. One of the turbo seals cracked and I was leaking oil and boost pressure out of the system. I gave up on another turbo rebuild and bought a brand new Evo 16G Ported turbo and it runs fantastic. :thumb:
