Ok, here are the details of my car before I tell you what happened. I just picked up the car last night. It's a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. As for the mods, it has a small 16g turbo, mk3 supra side mount intercooler, intake, 2.5 inch turbo back exhaust and a manual boost controller. The guy who I bought it from said that the person before that he purchased the car from had the motor rebuilt at 100k and had the head ported and polished. Didn't really care if it was true or not since I got it for a good price. The car now has 132,xxx miles on it. Anyway, today I picked up a SAFC II because the one that used to be in it was stolen from the previous owner. My friend and I messed around with the safc and got the car running a lot better. It was bogging out at full throttle before that. After we got it running nicely for a full day I made a stupid choice to play around with the boost controller. I had it a 12lbs of boost but decided to turn it up. I wound up hitting 16lbs at 6000-6500 rpm and then a heard a poof noise. Ever since then when I just step on the gas lightly it says I'm pushing 10-14lbs driving normally. The car rides all rough. The motor sounds fine, but it backfires a lot. The oil pressure was fine and the temperature was staying at about 1/4 of the way (lower than usual). It isn't leaking any oil. Does this sound like the turbo is shot?
