I installed an amplifier a few days ago but bolting it to the back of the seat didnt seem creative enough for me. In case you cant tell, my trunk is pretty messed up. Ive been wanting to do something about this for a long time but havent had a good enough excuse. Well, heres what I came up with for a solution.

This is what I had to work with. Pretty bad right?

Started the whole thing around midnight. I didnt even have much of a plan for it. Basically just a picture in my head so I had to make it work as I built it. I made some rough cuts on some 1/4" MDF to get the basic shape of things.

I wanted this thing removable because 50w x 4 RMS just isnt gonna cut it for some speakers I have my eye on. id like to just sell the thing as a whole package once I upgrade the whole system. With that thought, I decided to make the 2 pieces(floor and vertical) separate units that could easily be removed if needed. Also, I dont wanna have to drill a bunch of holes and screw the thing down later.

I decided to make the upper piece molded to the rear shock towers as far around as I could get it in the rear and a little in the front. This would make it slide down and lock its self into the car. It doesnt seem like much to hold it in place but once you get the weight of the amp on top of it, and some alignment dowels in some holes that are already in place, its not going anywhere.

So far Ive got a basic backbone for the thing.

I ran out of fiberglass at this point. Unfortunately theres nowhere to get more resin and mat at 2am in Utah. Since Im pretty much nocturnal, I decided to keep going on the project. I cut out a hole for the amp and built a mounting plate for it.

After that was done, I cut the plexiglass and test fitted it to the hole over the top of the amp. So far so good.

At this point, its 5am and Ive run out of things to do with the car. All im waiting for right now is for the stores to open up so I can get more fiberglass. More updates coming later today.
