I worked on this all night last night and just finished it up this morning. I need to do something about the carpet though, it looks ugly the way it is :barf: I'm also thinking about putting 2 little red neons in there with the amp.

and are you getting any kind of bass out of that thing, ive got a bigger version running the corner speakers and it seems underpowered....

haha, no I used a knife and scissors.

And yes I'm getting bass out of it, when I have the bass boost on and all the other junk turned up, it vibrates my hair quite a bit in the car. I know it's not the best amp, but I don't have any money and it works good for only $80.

Ouch, so heavy! I had 2 12" Type 's... and now i have one infinity kappa perfect 10" and it sounds so much cleaner...But enough of my opinions.
The only bad thing i see is that the amp wont get and air circulation down there, unless you have an amp cooler?? You going to cut the carpet to fit it too or no? Alos id be worried about moisture. The 2g hatches have been known to leak water into the spare tire well.

~Edit~ After a closer look I see that you cut the carpet with the lid. Try to even it out and go to like PepBoys or something and get some edging to put around the cut out. Make it look a little better.

LMFAO nice one anyways make a frame to pit over ther edge of the carpet that will look good and cover that cutting job you did. nice though :thumb:

try a razor blade with a straight edge. otherwise, recarpet the whole piece and wrap the new carpet around those edges so it looks finished!

you've got a good start on things though. a little clean up and you'll be set.

Before I did anything, I looked for moisture and there was nothing down there. For air getting out, the plexi glass has holes cut in it and the bottom of the little "box" that the amp is sitting in isn't solid, there's just two little pieces of ply wood holding it and also, the sides are open, so there's enough air.

For the carpet, I'm not done with that yet. I'm gonna look at that site someone else just gave me for the rubber trimming stuff. I was in a hurry to cut the carpet bec/ it was like 12am and I had been working on it for a couple hours and I needed to get to bed cuz I had to get up early that next morning, so I took the sloppy way out.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll post pics of the final product.

hey, i like the 'cut-out' idea for placing that amp. also, the neons down there too would look good i think, make sure to match the lights with your color scheme or the color of your car, and that you cant see the bulbs. maybe try convering your hatch floor with the same material as your headliner (i found this material at jo-ann fabrics for about $10/square yard.) i recently re-covered my hatch floor also, and found this very easy to work with, with no stretch marks. just stretch it arounmd the edges and stple down.

this would eliminate the need for getting trim also.

attatched is my example...

That looks really nice, maybe I'll do that as a weekend project before thanksgiving.

Thanks for your suggestion.

this is what i was thinking would be cool. make the amp look like its 'floating', just a piece of wood holding it up on a platform, then put neons on the platform shining down at a mirror. red was just somethng to show

you should throw some neons in the wheels that would be hot.... and some custom cutouts in the hood like a skull or something with some nos purge coming from the eyes ohhh. and seats that rotate 360 degrees.... ohhh. and some :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: to go with it..... i say if your going custom go custom and if your ### be ### you cant be half ###...... not harshing dude but if your custom doing a system go further than a box.... and some sissors.... but keep up the work you'll get it

that was somewhat rude, but i would agree with him on it being all custom. you may want to somehow integrate the subs into the enclosure instead of that box. if you can do something with that, i think it would be a very nice setup. good luck :thumb:

dude iam just being true if iam messing with you and telling you this as dsm'er to another you can only imagine what others will say either in front of you or behind your back..... just some constructive critisism...

Constructive Criticism is good, being a total A$$ about it is not. maybe you should think before you type next time?

That said, look like a decent start. but definately smooth out the cuts.

You also might have an airflow issue for your amp if you run it hard for long periiods of time. While it may have air around it, it has no air flow. you might consider getting a small fan to put onit, that way you have air actively flowing over it helping to cool it. I have found that just a small 80mm or even a 60mm computer fan can help out quite a bit. My old setup would shut off after about 45 mins of hard use due to my amps overheating. this wa when it was in the trunk of my T-Bird. Plenty of air, just no air flow.

The reason I did this was because I didn't have anywhere else to put the amp and I still wanted to have some trunk room. This way, when it's all finished, I'll still have some trunk room, and I'm probably going to get a little fan on the amp and then I'll be able to set stuff on top of the amp since it will be protected by the plexi glass. I'm not trying to make everything custom, just needed somewhere to put the amp, but thanks for "trying" to help, next time, keep your fukking mouth shut because you didn't offer any help.

Criticism should be legible and easy to understand.

That was neither.

Consider it more of a warning. Next time, we give you a keyboard with punctuation keys and remove your emoticon posting ability.

Any updates Defaced? Want to know how it looks with the neon.... I was thinking fo doing something similar but hooking up the power source to the sub as a sort of pulse to the bass... but couldnt figure out how to step up the power to actually see the light.

pwned...

I think it looks awesome and I know what you mean about not having any trunk space. I have a similar box with 12's and the amp is just chillin behind it but I have no way of securing it. It always pushes the twelves out into the back of the trunk under acceleration. So I say good job :thumb: Put some trim around it and you'd be all set!

Oh my god ... i laughed for like 10 minutes after reading that ..

Sorry ... great idea though! .. clean it up with a frame around the carpet rectangle on the inside and it will help alot!

Nope, not as of yet anyway, I'm gonna go shopping for some fabric tonight and just redo the trunk w/ the fabric cuz the more I think about it the more I realize how dirty and ugly the stuff is that's in there right now.

I'll keep you all posted.
