My SRS Light Came On Out Of No where & Also I Can't Shift Into 4th now?

Hey guys how is everyone doing?

I'm hoping I can get some help with this new problem that I'm facing.

I have a 98 eclipse N/T (automatic) and recently when I started my car the other day, my SRS light come on. Also now my car won't shift into 4th and also the overdrive button doesn't do anything anymore. It shifts into 1st 2nd and 3rd just fine but it just doesn't wanna go into 4th.

I tried taking it to autozone but they said they can only diagnose check engine lights and they recommended that I take my car to Mitsubishi.

My buddy told me it might be a fuse but then this older guy at autozone told me that a fuse wouldn't do this..

I was wondering if any of you have seen this problem before?

also just in case it helps here are my mods:

megan racing headers 4 -1
cold air
full exhaust (straight pipes, no cat)
msd ignition

(yes i know i have a awd and yes i know you have a 420a auto)

your buddy is in the right path (not a fuse like your buddy said but more like a solenoid)

a delayed speed change (meaning its not shifting) will indicate a problem in the UD hydraulic circuit. when this is detected, the 3-4 shift is aborted temporarily, the controller will attempt the 3-4 shift again, after 3 unsuccesful shift attempts, a trouble code should have set. this code does not cause the transmission to go into limp-in.

cause: internal transmission failure


(overdrive is applied only in 3-4 so sence you cant shift up overdrive does nothing.)

(underdrive works on 1-2-3)

but personally i think its your input shaft speed sensor that is bad but good luck finding one because autozone will tell you [sorry never even heard of that ]

so i think you should either pull it off of a junkyard, or order a new one from the dealer, they should carry a partnumber sheet with all the good info in it.

If IT IS your Input Speed Sensor try NAPA online, I had a broken output speed sensor and they seemed to be the only place around my neighborhood that had it. Just search on their website for "Speed Sensor"

not yet its still shifting on me when ever it wants sometime's it'll go good 1st --> 2nd -- > 3rd other times it wont hit 3rd. other times it'll go from 3rd to 2nd. it just got re-built too, but i think it's electrical

Hey, PM me your address, I have a pretty nifty manual for your type of trans. that I have no use for anymore.

You will be able to read through it and knock out all kinds of troubleshooting and such.

Finally resolved the topic it was the overdrive switch blown, got the dealer to fix her up.

She's running like a champ again

I was sad to see that no one here would mention an overdrive switch blown but I guess the dealer is more knowledgeable than us all
