Can't get silencer out of muffler!!!!!

I bought a cat back exhaust system and when i got it out i tried to pull the stupid looking silencer out but its wedged in there or something. Ive tried clamping on it wit a vice grips and trying to hook an L shaped metal hanger to the bottom of the outlet tube in the middle of it but it hasn't moved at all and i can't get through the back of the muffler cause its pre welded to the piece of piping that goes over the axle any advice would be appreciated cause i don't want to screw up the muffler, thanks!

When I got mine, there were two screws I had to take out on the tip. It was a little tight, but I was able to take it out by hand.

yea there was one screw in mine, and i took that out right away, here's two pics, the silencer is bent in the one pic from me trying to pry it out

Try going to your local parts store and renting a slide hammer (i know advance auto has them), this should work perfectly. You'll just have to secure the muffler to someting and then pop that sucker out!!

I got mine pulled out at the shootout a year ago. the cat was hooked to the car, and I had been running without the screw for around a year (hoping it would eventually fly out). Took the guy a few tries, and flying on his ass(when the tool slipped), as well as looking like he was gonna rip the exhaust completely off the car (he was using vice grips i believe), but thats how we got mine off.

Interesting thing i read though in import tuner. They tested a car with an aftermarket exhaust with and without a silencer in a N/A Miata (roughly same hp as us) and a boosted car. While there was a good 5hp diff i believe in the boosted car, there was no change in the N/A car, so just something to consider.

I used a dremel and a cut off wheel to cut it out... Was insane how hard it was pressed into the tailpipe!

I had the same issue with my exhaust...I ended up just ripping/bending the silencer until it came out since I had no intentions of putting it back in.

You could take a torch to the outside muffler pipe and expand that away from the silencer. Honestly I think the NA would sound better with it in.

I wouldn't bother taking it out if it's a non turbo car.

But if you must just like someone said, get a torch, ( even a little hand held blue bottle propane torch is plenty) heat it, then it should pull out, if not spray it with some thing cold.. ( those air dusters they sell at staples) and spray just the silencer it's self while the outside pipe is heated, should shrink it enough to yank it out. ... secure the muffler somehow though. either friend with gloves holding it to t table or something... nothing worse than red hot pipe touching skin.

Hell, you could always get a hook put in the hole and tie off to a tree. Should yank it right out or rip the silencer in half

Does your silencer have a nut welded to the inside. If is does take the bolt thread it in backwards and then pull on it with vice grips this works most of the time.
