I got the same light after unhooking my factory steering wheel, airbag and srs clockwork assembly. There is an adapter that has a plug on it to eliminate the light, but I don't remember where I found it. The light never bothered me enough to fix it.
Edit*
Found some good information on how to fix it on 3si.

the SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) light comes on when there's a fault with the system is self. like removing the airbag or one of its components, and no it does not affect driveability...
why live if your DSM gets totaled?Ugh I would hope nobody is removing there airbag permanently or any of its parts.

Here is the thing with air bag like any other part in a car it does wear out. Yes it does go thru a self check. A lot of automotive manufatuers recomend replacing certain compontes after so many years and or millage even your seat belts. There was a time before air bags and the racing aspect is catching up to it. The best bet is a racing style of seat belt.
i never said anything about replacing parts because as you stated it may be a good idea to check and or replace damaged or worn parts. I was simply talking about permanently removing any parts of that system.
