Just got my JSP carbon fiber hood installed today. Still have to do my hood pins to make sure it doens't fly open (not good) but other then that pretty happy with it.

Hood weighs 15lbs vs stock hood (65?) and is top notch construction. The underside of the hood is what impressed me the most. It's fully filled in (though not heavy) and has a really nice smooth black look to it. Really looks good on my car considering it's also black. Fit is descent, not as good as stock, but pretty darn close. I bought it mostly for the weight savings but am happy with the look as well. On most angles it just looks like a normal black hood, pretty wierd acctually. These pictures I took on certain angles so you can really see the carbon fiber.

I just took some pics at the car wash (cause my car was dirty for once) so I thought I would share.

do you not trust the latch system? just asking cause considering a VIS hood but don't want to use hood pins...where did you order yours from?

a lot of people who trust the latch end up with a hood in their windshield/roofline (roof is usually a tad expensive to fix).....definately get the damn pins.............definately....

Looks good, mine is the Vis and yours looks alot more silver than mine. Maybe it's because your car is black i dunno. But screw hood pins I've gone over 120mph in the wind the latch works for me. :D

I would never trust a carbon fiber hood without pins. Your crazy. I refuse to break 50-60mph without them on my car. I have seen the damage from the hood breaking and coming open.

Remember it's nothing but fiberglass and rivits that hold the hood closed, so your taking your life into your own hands doing that.

gtsifwd: I took the pics under flourcent lighting lastnight at the car wash so thats why it shows up so much. Really the hood blends into the car and you can hardly see it LOL.. I just took the pics in such a way so that people can see it. If you look at my last pic where it doens't really show up (partly because of the headlights) thats pretty well how it looks during the day.

jaxon23: It's from JSP. www.jspamerica.com The hoods are acctually made here in Toronto by a company just down the street from me. They used to sell to the public but are now excluseive with JSP. Their stuff was alwasy pretty nice so I finally decided to order one.

I've seen many CF hood owners with no hood pins, not saying that is safe, but the looks are kinda cleaner IMO, but then again SAFETY FIRST.

But anyway, your talon, definetaly looks great...!

is the hood poppen in those pics because it doesnt look like it fits flat, i would love a cf hood but none of them match up good enough for me.

You are correct it is slightly off. The hood is not open but it needs hood pins to hold it down exactly right. The hood is nont strong like a steel hood so it needs more than one point at the front to hold it down straight.

With hood pins it holds down straight and looks descent. Really don't buy a carbon fiber hood if you have high expectations because they dont fit 100% but mine is 95% I would say and will sit perfectly flat with some pins. It's a matter of weight reduction in my case not style. I acctually considered just getting normal fiberglass and having it painted however my car is black so it matches. I really do not like the look of carbon fiber hoods on anything but black as it doesn not match. It doesn't really match my car but it's close. But on any other color it looks like the car was in an accident a new hood put on and not painted. It reminds me of a front bumper on a honda that has not been painted yet LOL.. Thats just me however, some people really like the offsetting color.

actually this supra ive seen is red and its cf hood fits perfectly i might ask him where he got his, it looks nice like that too.

You hurt my feelings JIM.......

Hood pins should be used on carbon hoods, regardless of the existance of the latch.

There have been cases where in accidents, carbon hoods sheer off of the hinge brackets and break free from the latch due to impact allowing the carbon hood to become free and slice through the windshield and whatever else in its path (heads).

It's true. This is not a joke or an urban legend. Metal hoods are designed to crumple in collisions (like fenders and chassis frames). Carbon doesn't crumple, it has some degree of flexibility but is also stiff. During impact, it can bow and contain potential energy like a spring. That energy has to go somewhere... and it's going to go the path with the least resistance.

Always use hood-pins as a back-up safety measure. Your driving may be good, but you still have to worry about the other idiots on the road.

Sorry! :( That just personal preference. I have seen a few off setting colors that I liked though. I saw a Corrado in Copper (that Volvo rust looking color) and it had a carbon fiber hood and that looks pretty killer. Anyway not to make anybody mad LOL..

Its sorta the same as how I prefer the rear bumper on an eclipse but the front bumper of the talon, just personal preference...

hood looks good and looks very clean. if i were u, i'd get either black hoodpins, or paint the ones u get black. idk, hoopins on a cf hood stand out way to much, and so i'd paint em' or buy black pins. < that is just my opinion though, so yeah. :D

I was kidding man, I hear it all the time. I just personally love the color scheme now that I have my wheels on. When I had the stock chrome wheels I wanted nothing more than to paint it. And I didnt know they sold black hood pins???? I have some silver sparco ones, just no money or time to install myself.

I've always loved your car Jim, and when I read the title to the thread and saw you posted it, I was like "Hell yeah" !! Black car with a CF hood is the sexiest thing next to Britney Spear's legs. Excellent choice:thumb:

You can probably have your silver pins anodized black. Paint won't stick too well and the parts are a bit too small for powder coating.
