well my rack and pinion just exploded, any ideas on what a reasonable price is to get this repaired. i called one dealership and they said $312 for labor and $970 for the parts. if this is true it looks like there will be on less dsm on the streets

That really sucks man, check your local salvage yard and price the rack, it might not be that bad. I have never installed one, but its got to be easier than changing a Clutch on a AWD DSM.

Don't fret, things break on cars all the time, Maintanence is key to a vehicles life.
