My Journey to a Quiet 3in Exhaust (Vids + Pics)

I got my Vibrant streetpower muffler welded on yesterday. I decided not to lower the tip size to 2.25 to avoid the added coast of the welding and painting of the tips. Plus looking stock is not my concern, which is lowering the exhaust noise.

The muffler changed the tone considerably. The Magnaflow sounded like someone screeming while this one is low and deep. Also the popping sound when letting of the gas without pressing the clutch in is gone. However it is still loud. Honestly its probably just as loud as before, just with a deeper tone.

I have before and after videos which I will upload sometime this week.

The next step is a resonator.

Now my question is do you AWD guys have resonators that really work and if so, which ones would fit under my car?

I have a 3in Apexi turbo back system with 2 resonators. They are megan racing they came with the car when I got it, I have took the cat out and put in a test pipe and my exhaust has a nice rumble to it and not to loud. I would suggest looking on ebay or look at Megan Racing

Resonators help a lot! I have 3, think I posted everything in this thread, don't remember as it is kind of old. One is a large magnaflow and the other two are the ones that came with my exhaust. Definitely quited it down with the large magnaflow. Might change the two cheap ones to louvered, which will make it sound like stock again (prefer no exhaust noise or maybe very little)

Here are the before and after videos, like I said, not too much of a difference.

After: Vibrant Streetpower

I'm going to order a louvered core resonator from RRE tonight. I'll get a video once I get it put on so you can further compare the sound difference.

I had a magna flow dual tip on my last DSM I liked it. But after reading this thread I'm sure I'll get a vibrant with the dual tips.

I have the exact same muffler (Vibrant #1043) as the OP. I replaced the canister style muffler that was part of the ebay catback. I shortened the tips by cutting some off near the body of the muffler and then having them welded back on. I did this to keep them from sticking too far out towards the rear of the car.

The Vibrant muffler looks to be very solid and well made. It's on the heavy side because it is densely packed with stainless steel strands.

The two main things that I like about it:

1) The size and spacing of the dual tips fits the 2G bumper cut out perfectly IMO.

2) The sound is very low and deep.

Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of drone during steady cruise and deceleration is quite loud.

But overall I'm quite happy with it.
